LSU announced today safety Greg Brooks has been diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer called medulloblastoma. Brooks underwent surgery last month to remove a large tumor after complaining about dizzy spells. Doctors say the surgery was successful in removing the tumor and there is no evidence the cancer spread. But Brooks faces months of intensive rehabilitation. To help with his medical costs the Tiger Athletic Foundation has launched the Greg Brooks Victory Fund.
Six Saints players did not practice today as the team is getting ready to visit the New England Patriots on Sunday. Defensive tackle Bryan Bresee missed the practice because of an illness. Cornerback Lonnie Johnson has a hamstring injury and Andrus Peat is suffering from a concussion. Cesar Ruiz was a full participant for a first time since suffering a concussion against the Packers and cornerback Paulson Adebo, who has missed the last two weeks was limited.
The Louisiana High School Athletic Association is keeping the playoff format they had last year after high school principals voted not to change the definition of a select school. ULM will host South Alabama on Saturday. The Warhawks lost to the Jaguars by a touchdown in Mobile last year. Coach Terry Bowden says South Alabama produced 615 yards of offense that day….
