The state legislature did not come through for Louisiana residents looking to play online fantasy sports contests for cash prizes. Despite approval in 47 parishes last November, lawmakers did not pass a tax structure for the activity to take place in Louisiana. Also, Louisiana will remain on the sidelines when it comes to legalized sports betting. Kenner Senator Danny Martiny’s measure to allow for a vote this fall to legalize sports betting at the state’s casinos got ambushed with unfriendly amendments when it went before House Appropriations. Martiny retaliated by not allowing a vote for the fantasy sports tax structure bill in the final minutes of the legislative session…

Hard to say when sports betting and fantasy sports will be legalized in Louisiana. Next year, tax items can not be approved in the regular session, so it might take a special session to pass these two activities in 2020.
