Louisiana’s Fortified Roof Grant Program, aimed at helping homeowners strengthen their roofs against hurricanes, is facing scrutiny as it carries over millions in unspent funds due to homeowners withdrawing due to cost. Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple, encourages more residents to apply for the grants, highlighting the long-term savings on insurance premiums and the added protection Fortified Roofs provide.

U-L Lafayette has backed away from claiming much of downtown Lafayette as a gun-free school zone, after being threatened by legal action U-l Lafayette says they have taken down signs that declared the area, and others, a “Safe School Zone.” Previously, U-L claimed that the area within a one-thousand-foot radius of the Lafayette Science Museum, which is owned by the university, fell under laws that protect such areas around schools.
