Today, President Trump has started the process of dissolving the Department of Education with an executive order. The cut will require an act of Congress, and it has the support of House Majority Leader Steve Scalise. The Metairie representative says the federal government has not gotten a good return on the money that it’s spent on education since 1979, when the department was established.

11 people working at the Port of Lake Charles were arrested last week because they allegedly lacked permanent legal status to be in the United States. Louisiana State Police and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement made the arrests and say they resulted from an investigation into “illegal hiring of unauthorized workers,” Those arrested were from Mexico, Ecuador, and Nicaragua and were employed by contractors or tenants working at the Port of Lake Charles and not employed by the port.

A Mandeville-area teacher was arrested for allegedly receiving sexually explicit photos from his students. Sean Richardson has more.

Baton Rouge Police have made an arrest in the fatal shooting of a hospital worker who was gunned down after leaving work. Lieutenant L’Jean McKneely says 60-year-old Roland Domino shot 58-year-old Patricia Jackson in the parking lot outside of Our Lady of the Lake Hospital yesterday afternoon. McKneely says it was a domestic violence incident…
