Governor Edwards says he’s confident progressive voters in the state won’t abandon him at the polls over his decision to sign one of the nation’s most restrictive abortion bans. Matt Doyle has the story.

Governor Edwards has signed the “Truth in Labeling” bill into law prohibiting Louisiana food producers from using terminology like “meat” or “milk” when labeling substitute products created from plants, or “rice” when labeling cauliflower-based substitutes.  Senator Frances Thompson authored the bill.

Jefferson Parish Sherriff Office have identified 22-year old Sean Barrette as the suspect who randomly selected four victims to murder in Metairie and New Orleans in the last few weeks. Sheriff Joe Lopinto has credited the quick investigation of multiple departments in sharing evidence thus linking him to the crimes. Two of the four victims are Hispanic males and they all appear to be random at this point in the investigation. A cell phone found at the scene of one murders, Sheriff Lopinto says linked the suspect to the murders. The Sherriff’s office says the suspect has a history of mental issues and is not cooperating with authorities at this time.

A DOTD worker was killed Tuesday in a construction zone in Lincoln Parish. Louisiana State Police want to remind motorist that the Move Over Law is designed to keep everyone safe. Spokesperson trooper Michael Reichardt says with numerous construction projects in the works this summer and motorist need to pay extra attention.
