The races will go on at the Fairgrounds after the Louisiana State Racing Commission held an emergency meeting in New Orleans today.  Churchill Downs had threatened to not renew its racing license unless the state provided a subsidy to cover loses Churchill Downs claimed were due to the loss of revenue from horse racing machines at Off Track sites that were deemed illegal several years ago. The State of Louisiana has not agreed to any funding, but talks are continuing. Races at the Fairgrounds, one of the nation’s oldest tracks, will run from November 20th through March 22nd.

Louisiana Congresswoman Julia Letlow says her legislation that would help agricultural producers impacted by disruptions to the global trade market has the support of the House Agriculture committee.

Letlow says the bill would create a dedicated fund from collected tariffs to assist farmers if they lose revenue, because of a decrease in exports, higher input costs and retaliatory trade barriers imposed by foreign countries.

The longtime voice of the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, Dave Nitz passed away at the age of 82 this morning. A native of West Virginia, Nitz arrived in Ruston in the spring of 1974 when he called his first Bulldog baseball game, an NCAA Regional matchup at old Arlington Stadium. LA Tech broadcaster Malcolm Butler says Nitz was a professional in every sport, but baseball was his passion…
