It was an emotional night for the first pick in the NBA Draft and New Orleans’ newest Pelican Zion Williamson.

Cut 3 (12) “…hit me.”

Pelicans’ Executive Vice President David Griffin sat triumphantly at a post draft press conference after selecting Zion Williamson at 1, Center Jaxson Hayes at 8, and shooting guard Nikeil  Alexander-Walker at 17 in the first round.

Griffin says everyone in, and outside of the organization is gearing up for a bright, winning future…

Cut 6 (12) “…a franchise.”

 

(Griffin came into the night with the 1st and 4th pick, but traded the fourth and Solomon Hill’s burdensome contract to Atlanta for the 8th and 17th. This gives the team ample cap room in free agency.)

 

Summer has arrived and the first day of the season is seeing the heat index in the triple digits in some areas.  Those temps are not just brutal on humans, but on the four-legged family members as well.  Louisiana Humane Society Director Jeff Dorson says with the mercury rising, so do the phone calls about pets being tied up in the heat.

Memorial events for music legend Dr. John who died two weeks ago will be held tomorrow in New Orleans.  There will be a public visitation at the Orpheum Theater from 7 until 10:30 am.  A private memorial will follow from 1 to 3. Then the public is invited to a second line which begins at the Orpheum at 3 pm. Dr. John leaves the world a great body of music that he not only performed but he wrote as well. The New Orleans native died of a heart attack at the age of 77 on
