A bill inspired by the death of LSU co-ed Madison Brooks this spring – that would punish bars who serve minors and the minor the hurts themselves or others – fails to clear a House committee. The Senate-approved bill deadlocked on a 6-6 vote. Shreveport Rep. Alan Seabaugh feels the bill protects kids who break the law by drinking underage..:

The bill could be called up again, but that seems unlikely.

 

State lawmakers have approved the 2023 coastal master plan, which is the state’s vision for the long-term sustainability of south Louisiana. The chairman of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, Chip Kline, says the plan was developed utilizing the best available science and engineering, as well as public input…:

Kline says $1.6-billion will be used to fund 147 projects across the coast.

The state Republican Party is calling for a bill to ban gender transition care for minors to be called from the Senate Health & Welfare Committee and brought to the Senate floor for a vote. The House has already approved the measure. It was defeated in committee Wednesday by a 5-4 vote; Republican Senator Fred Mills, of St. Martin Parish cast the deciding vote to kill the measure. GOP members say they whole body should have the opportunity to vote on it. Mills is unfazed by criticism for his vote.
