At this hour, Governor John Bel Edwards is getting a first-hand look at the damage in the Monroe area from yesterday’s tornados that destroyed between 200 and 300 homes in Ouachita Parish. An estimated 30-million dollars of damage was done to planes inside a hangar at the Monroe Regional Airport.

Thousands are without power as a result of yesterday’s severe weather across the I-20 corridor. Entergy says 200 poles, 450 spans of wire, and 50 transformers will either need to be repaired or replaced. Spokesman David Freese says they’re pulling in emergency workers to get it done.

SWEPCO is reporting eight-thousand of its Louisiana customers are without power as well. It may take until Wednesday afternoon before most of their Shreveport customers have electricity.
Louisiana residents who are receiving unemployment should see a substantial increase in assistance starting today. Governor Edwards says previously unemployed workers were only eligible for up to 247-dollars from the state

Edwards says gig workers and 10-99 employees can begin receiving 600-dollars in unemployment assistance starting today.
