The hurricane warning for the Metro New Orleans area and Lake Pontchartrain has been changed to a tropical storm warning. The hurricane watch for Lake Maurepas has been discontinued. National Weather Service Meterologist Mike Shields says storm surge is expected to be Louisiana’s biggest problem, especially in St. Bernard and Plaquemines Parishes.

Shields says there is also a small threat for tornadoes. He says a turn towards the north-northeast is expected later tonight, followed by a motion toward the north east.
