A special mass was held last night at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Acadia Parish to honor Charlene Richard, who is know as the Little Cajun Saint. Monday was the 66th anniversary of her death. She died when she was 12 years old from Leukemia, but she offered her suffering for others. People from around the world have traveled to her grave to pray to her and there are testmonies of miracles attributed to her intercession, including a pregnant woman from New York who was told by doctors her fetus had two severe brain abnormalities…

The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office has released the name of a 12-year-old who was fatally shot over the weekend. Shreveport Police say Caiden Smith died at a hospital after he accidentally shot himself after finding a gun inside his home. Authorities say this heartbreaking incident highlights the importance of safe firearm storage and education.

The U-S Forest Service is fighting a large wildfire in the Kisatchie Hills Wilderness Area in Natchitoches Parish. It has burned 15-hundred acres and Jim Caldwell says because of the wildfire, the entire Kisatchie Hills Wilderness area is closed…

The Louisiana Tech University community is mourning the death of its longest-serving first lady, Linda Reneau. The university announced Reneau’s death yesterday. Linda spent 26 years as Louisiana Tech’s first lady, and left a lasting contribution on Louisiana Tech’s campus, including an endowment to care for the landscape and maintenance created by her and President Dan Reneau. The Quad’s rose garden is also named after Linda.

The Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of one of its own yesterday.   CPSO says 22 year old Deputy Drakel Carter was arrested after a physical altercation involving the deputy on Saturday.  Carter is charged with malfeasance in office and simple battery.  He’s been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by State Police.

LSU Sophomore Ju’Juan Johnson is listed as a quarterback on the roster, but he worked at running back in both individual and team periods yesterday. Because of the suspension to JT Lindsey, there’s a need for Johnson to play running back with the Tigers down to three scholarship players at that position.

Harold Perkins is looking good during preseason camp at the Star Position. It’s the position he told Blake Baker that he wanted to play during the offseason. The star allows Perkins to rush the passer or drop back in coverage. Baker says Perkins is tailor made for that job…

Perkins is coming off a torn ACL injury, but looks ready to go for the season opener against Clemson.

Franklin brings over 15 years of college coaching experience to the Bulldogs, where he is recognized for his ability to develop the quarterback position. With a quarterback battle between Blake Baker, Evan Bullock, and Trey Cook ongoing, Franklin likes what he sees from each player.

Richard has been declared a Servant of God. It remains to be seen if she will be declared Venerable, than Blessed and then finally a “Saint.” There are 11 canonized American Saints and Richard would be the first from Louisiana.

Blake Baker enters his second season as the LSU defensive coordinator. The Tigers finished 61st in total defense last season. With Harold Perkins returning from an ACL injury, the LSU defense will be one of the most top-heavy linebacker rooms in the country. Baker says Perkins will be fun to watch this season.

South Florida transfer defensive tackle Bernard Gooden is one of the key additions that Baker and the staff are high on. Baker says Gooden’s smaller size helps him get off the ball quicker.

LSU not only added an abundance of defensive linemen in the transfer portal, but it also added two experienced safeties. Temarcus Cooley transferred in from NC State and AJ Haulcy transferred in from Houston. Baker says that Haulcy plays with a certain style that will help the entire defense.

Medicaid reportedly paid nearly ten-million dollars to healthcare organizations for over a thousand deceased beneficiaries between February 2019 and March of this year according to a report from the Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s Office. State auditor Chris Magee says their recommendation to the Louisiana Department of Health is to use third-party data sources in their effort to make sure beneficiaries of Medicaid have not passed away…

U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon was in Baton Rouge this morning to kickoff her returning education to states tour. Secretary McMahon visited Jefferson Terrace Academy and participated in a roundtable conversation on Louisiana’s literacy progress.
