A work release inmate who walked off the job is captured. The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office says 22-year-old Taegan Howarth was caught in St. Tammany Parish. Ashley Rodrigue with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office says the work release program is a Department of Corrections program, and Howarth is not the first to walk off the job since Gerald Sticker became sheriff last year.

Former Louisiana First Lady Alice Foster passed away last Thursday at 84, in her historic home, Oaklawn Manor, in St. Mary Parish. She was the wife of former Governor Mike Foster for 40 years until his passing in 2020.  Former Foster Press Secretary Marsanne Golsby says Alice Foster was an amazing woman.

Dr. Rahn Bailey with LSU Health New Orleans says losing an hour during the “spring forward” transition affects biological clocks, reducing morning sunlight exposure and delaying sleep schedules.

D-1 baseball has the Tigers still ranked number one after the Tigers completed a sweep of North Alabama to run their winning streak to eleven games. LSU won 11 to five yesterday as Josh Pearson hit a grand slam. Chase Shores was the winning pitcher, as he allowed two runs in five innings. Shores gave up nine hits, but Coach Jay Johnson says Shores was able to limit the damage…

The Saints have acquired former LSU star Davon Godchaux in a trade with the Patriots. New Orleans sent a seventh round pick to New England for the 30-year-old. Godhaux should help with the Saints’ run defense.

But the Saints are losing cornerback Paulson Adebo, who has signed a free agent deal with the New York Giants.

One of the state’s winningest high school football coaches has passed away. Red Franklin won 365 games and 11 state championships during his 35 years as the head coach of the Haynesville Golden Tornado. His son, David Franklin, says his father started coaching at Haynesville in 1966, took a small school in Webster Parish, and made it a powerhouse…

Franklin retired in 2002 and he was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.

The Ragin Cajuns have a new men’s basketball coach. 44-year-old Quannas White is a New Orleans native and has spent the last eight years as an assistant coach at Houston. He’ll be formally introduced next Monday.

He was last seen in Convent wearing a yellow vest and a white hard hat. Rodrigue is urging you to be on the lookout for him.

Franklin was the head football coach at Haynesville High School for 35 years, winning 11 state championships along the way. Franklin’s son, David – the current head coach for the Haynesville Golden Tornadoes – says his father arrived at the school during integration, and he helped the community come together as one.

David Franklin says his father was not only the head coach of his players, but he was also their mentor in both football and life.

David Franklin says his father was quite the disciplinarian – both on the football field and at home.

A former LSU standout has been traded to the Saints. Defensive tackle Davon Godchaux should help improve the Saints’ run defense. New Orleans has reportedly sent a seventh-round pick in 2026 to New England to acquire Godchaux. The 30-year-old from Plaquemine was a durable player in New England and has 250 tackles and 5.5 sacks during his NFL career.

And legendary high school football coach Red Franklin has passed away at the age of 89. Franklin guided Haynesville to 11 football state championships.

The Ragin Cajuns have hired a New Orleans native as their new head men’s basketball coach. Quannas White has been an assistant at Houston for the last eight years and the associate head coach for the last two years. He’ll be formally introduced on Monday.

 

The LSU women’s basketball team has the next couple of weeks off and they can use it. Flau’Jae Johnson did not compete in the SEC Tournament because of a shin injury and Aneesah Morrow left Saturday night’s loss to Texas with an ankle injury. Mikaylah Williams had 11 points in the 56-49 defeat to the Longhorns and feels like she let her team down…

At the Southland Men’s basketball tournament in Lake Charles, Southeastern Louisiana was eliminated with a 71 to 67 loss to UIW yesterday. Tonight, Northwestern state hosts A-and-M Corpus Christi and Nicholls hosts UIW.

You’ll be voting on four amendments, including Amendment 2, which for all intents and purposes rewrites Article 7 of the state constitution. Revenue Secretary Richard Nelson says it codifies some changes in the tax laws that the legislature passed in the special session last November.

The new Central Louisiana State Hospital in Pineville is unveiled, designed for patients with severe mental illnesses. Pineville Representative Mike Johnson says the facility is needed because far fewer beds are currently available.

Natchitoches Parish is bracing for the upcoming closure of the International Paper mill in Campti. Colleen Crain has an update.
