Fly, Eagles, Fly! Fans who attended Super Bowl 59 at the Superdome no doubt had that song stuck in their heads last night. They played it often, as the Philadelphia Eagles dethroned the Kansas City Chiefs, 40-22, to win their second Super Bowl in franchise history. The game was much more lopsided than the final score indicated – the Eagles jumped out to a 34-0 lead before the Chiefs even crossed midfield late in the third quarter. Jalen Hurts passed for 221 yards and two touchdowns, including a 46-yard bomb to Amite’s very own DeVonta Smith that effectively ended the competitive phase of the game. Hurts was named Super Bowl MVP and said afterwards it was the culmination of a long journey that included a benching in the 2018 College Football Playoff Championship game while at Alabama, a subsequent transfer to Oklahoma and a loss to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl two years ago.
