The world’s tallest Christmas tree structure is back again this year in Stonewall.  The “Spirit of DeSoto” Christmas tree structure was unveiled last year, but this year’s lighting ceremony is bigger and better. The event kicks off at five behind Stonwall Government Plaza on Highway 171.  The 300 foot radio communications tower “tree” lighting is set for 6:30.

Despite economic uncertainties, consumers are expected to spend more this year than last year. LSU marketing professor Dan Rice says online shopping continues to rise, with 57 percent of shoppers planning online purchases.

Yesterday may have been the unofficial start to the holiday shopping season, but it was also a big day for high school football.  In quarter final action, Neville beat Chalmette 31-7, Ouachita Christian Downed Covenant Christian 30 to 14.  It was a nailbiter as Franklinton defeated Lakeshore 41 to 40 and Sterlington beat Oak Grove for the first time since 2016 ending the Tigers’ bid for a third straight state championship.  Final score was 43 to 39.

On Thanksgiving Day, Louisiana State Police pursued a vehicle linked to theft on I-10 near Iowa, Louisiana. The driver, 27-year-old Shanan McCoy Jr. fled after striking a police vehicle but was arrested. A search revealed stolen electronics and burglary tools. McCoy faces multiple charges, and investigations to identify his passengers continue. LSP is asking anyone with information related to the case to contact LSP.
