Governor Landry unveils his tax reform plan that he says would close most of a 700-million-dollar budget shortfall. In a news conference at the Capitol, Landry said part of his plan, which he has dubbed Louisiana Forward, would more than triple the standard deduction.

America has its first centenarian president, Jimmy Carter, who turns 100 years old today. Louisiana Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell served in the Louisiana State Senate during Carter’s presidency. Campbell says even after Carter ascended to the top of the political mountain in the 1970s, he never forgot his roots.

And celebrating another 100^th birthday is Southeastern Louisiana University. University President William Wainwright says the Hammond school has come a long way in one century.  During that time, the school has awarded tens of thousands of degrees.

Jeff Landry held a press conference today where the first-year governor laid plans for tax reform, lowering the state’s income tax and eliminating several tax breaks. Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Gerald Sticker says Abrham’s body was found wrapped up in tarp on Sunday morning along Highway 51 between Fluker and the Village of Tangipahoa. Sticker says Abraham died from blunt force trauma…

Starting today, a person could face up to five years in prison for possessing mifepristone and misoprostol without a prescription. The drugs are used to induce an abortion, but they also can help manage miscarriages, induce labor, insert IUD’s and stop hemorrhaging in pregnant women. Doctors have expressed concern this will negatively impact the health care of pregnant women, but Attorney General Liz Murrill and LDH do not see it that way.

LSU is getting a new library.  University officials say construction on a new 152-million dollar library is expected to start in 2026 and open in the spring of 2029. The Library Learning Commons will be built between South Campus Drive and South Stadium Drive near Field House Drive. The current library has water-damaged ceilings, worn out furniture and other issues.
