A teenage girl is dead in a crash in Lafayette. She was among six juveniles and an adult in a vehicle being driven by a 14-year-old boy. Police Sergeant Matthew Benoit (BEN-wah) says the boy was driving recklessly when he crashed. He says the boy tried to escape but didn’t get very far.

The boy is in juvenile detention and is facing four charges. Benoit notes that while investigators have established that the vehicle was stolen, it’s unclear whether that 14-year-old driver was the one who stole it.

The deadly shooting of a former mayor of Minden and his daughter by a young family member Sunday is still under investigation. 82-year-old Joe Cornelius and his 31-year-old daughter, Keisha Miles, were shot to death inside their home. Police Chief Jared McIver says when questioned, the story of one of the juveniles in the home at the time didn’t add up. Due to juvenile justice laws, they are only saying that the 11-year-old boy is a family member. As for a motive, that is still unknown.

The boy is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is being held on 500-thousand dollars.

The 4-year-old child who died after he shot and killed himself with a gun found in the console of a pick-up truck Sunday morning has been identified as Hudson Tassin, son of Brusly City Council Member, Blake Tassin. According to the West Baton Rouge parish Sheriff’s office the child found the gun when an adult stepped out of the truck to adjust a trailer. Authorities have turned over the results of their investigation to the district attorney.

McIver says it will take a long time to determine what led the boy to shoot the two victims dead. He is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and his bond is set at 500-thousand dollars.

An 18-year-old Grayson man is arrested for allegedly strangling a spotted fawn. The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says Taryn Varnell was captured on video taking the deer and choking it to death. Varnell faces up to ten years in prison and fines of more than 25-thousand dollars if convicted.

A former city councilman in Minden, in Webster Parish, and his daughter are shot dead, and the suspect is a ten-year-old boy. 82-year-old Joe Cornelius and his 31-year-old daughter, Keisha Miles, were found dead inside their home. Minden Police Chief Jared McIver says there were two juveniles inside the home at the time.

Purchases not eligible are hunting dogs, animal fee, off-road vehicles, and vessels such as airboats.

Knock on wood – but so far, it’s been a very quiet hurricane season here in Louisiana. LSU Climatologist Barry Keim says, though, we’re not out of the woods just yet. He says we’re currently in LaNina conditions, and that’s expected to build in the latter part of hurricane season.
