Dove hunting season gets underway tomorrow. Richard Temple with the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says it’s looking like this will be a great start to the season.

As the season approaches, LDWF is working to ensure that hunting areas are well-maintained and ready for the influx of hunters.

Six more neglected horses and ponies have been taken into custody by Louisiana humane groups. Humane Society of Louisiana Director Jeff Dorson says the severity of their conditions brings a heavy burden to the agency.

These animals were found in poor condition, suffering from malnutrition, untreated injuries, and lack of proper care. Dorson is urging the public to report any signs of animal neglect and to support rescue efforts through donations or adoption.

Fans going to Saturday’s home opener at Death Valley will be in for a special experience. LSU Chief Operations Officer and Deputy Athletic Director Keli Zinn says Tiger Stadium underwent several improvements during the offseason in preparation for its 100th year.

LSU’s opponent is Nicholls; and despite the mismatch on paper, the Colonels are excited to be taking the field at Death Valley. Head Coach Tim Rebowe says along with a 760-thousand-dollar payday, this game provides a great opportunity to get the word out about the school and the football team.

The Colonels are the defending Southland Conference champions, and Rebowe is the reigning conference coach of the year. This matchup was originally scheduled for 2020 until COVID altered those plans.

Tomorrow marks the start of the 100th season of football in Tiger Stadium and it’s the first time Nicholls State has ever played the Tigers in football. Colonels Coach Tim Rebowe says his team is looking forward to running onto the field at Death Valley.

Nicholls is coming off a loss to Louisiana Tech, while LSU lost by a touchdown to USC last Sunday. Despite the loss, senior defensive end Sai’vion Jones had a breakout game against the Trojans with two sacks and five tackles. Jones says he can’t let one game get to his head…

Kick off on Saturday night is at 6:30.

The Ragin Cajuns will look to improve to 2-and-0 on Saturday when they face Conference USA newcomer Kennesaw State. In its first-ever game as an FBS member, the Owls lost to UTSA 27-16 last night.

ULM will try to go 2-and-0 on the season when the Warhawks host UAB. First meeting between these two schools since 1999.

In other action…McNeese visits Texas A-and-M, Northwestern State hosts Prairie View looking for its first win since November 2022, Grambling faces Tuskegee in the school’s first home night game in six years, Southeastern Louisiana is at Southern Miss and Tulane takes on 17th ranked Kansas State.

The Saints kick off the season on Sunday at noon in the Dome against the Panthers. Quarterback Derek Carr feels good about new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak’s offense…

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office arrests a juvenile during the overnight hours for allegedly making a social media threat to shoot up Iowa high school. The 15-year-old was taken into custody at around one this morning and has been booked into the Juvenile Detention Center.

The Lake Charles Skyline will be forever changed Saturday morning as the iconic Capital One Tower is set to be demolished. The implosion is scheduled for 8:00 A.M but the Lake Charles Police Department and Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will be enforcing an exclusion zone beginning at 6:30 A.M. and anyone in the area near the Lake must be indoors for safety as dust and debris will be in the air. Anyone parking along I-10 to watch the implosion will be forced to leave and possibly towed.

If you believe in Bigfoot, there’s a festival in Natchitoches with your name all over it. The Louisiana Bigfoot Festival will be held from ten to six tomorrow at the Natchitoches Events Center. Organizer Carl Chism (CHIZZ-im) says there will be five featured speakers.

There are some people who claim they’ve spotted Bigfoot in the Kisatchie National Forest. Last July, the New York Post reported on a story that high school graduates from Houma called the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s office after seeing a large animal that resembled Bigfoot.

The season ending injury to LSU running back John Emery has resulted in the Tigers coaching staff moving freshman JuJuan Johnson from safety to running back. Johnson was Louisiana’s Mr. Football in 2023 as he finished off a legendary career at Lafayette Christian.

 

It’s the first Friday night of the high school football season and there are several big games on tap. Acadiana visits Ruston as the Bearcats begin defense of their Division One non-select state championship game. Two teams that won state championships are meeting tonight in Shreveport as Oak Grove travels across the state to take on Calvary Baptist.

 

After a 40-to-10 win at home to open the season, the Ragin Cajuns are on the road tomorrow to face Kennesaw State. U-L Lafayette Coach Michael Desormeaux is interested to see how his team handles success, because they didn’t handle it well last year…

 Jayden Daniels makes his NFL debut as the Commanders are at Tampa and Malik Nabers and the New York Giants will take on Jordan Jefferson and the Vikings.

An iconic part of the Lake Charles skyline will be coming down tomorrow morning. The Capital One Tower will be imploded at eight a-m. Most of the tower’s windows were blown out during Hurricane Laura four years ago. It stood in disrepair ever since; and given the cost to bring it back up to code, Demolition project manager Josh Stevens says the only viable option was to knock it down.

Louisiana’s Second Amendment sales tax holiday is set for this weekend.  During the holiday, eligible purchases, including rifles, pistols, shotguns, ammunition, archery gear, and select hunting accessories, are exempt from the state’s sales tax. West Monroe Senator Stewart Cathey says the holiday also benefits local retailers, who often see increased foot traffic and sales during the weekend…
