Landry says the state is putting policies in place that puts the parents in charge of a child’s education. The governor says the best example of that is the Louisiana Gator Program, which will replace the state’s current voucher program. He says Louisiana Gator will expand over time allowing more students of all income levels to use taxpayer dollars to attend the school of their choice…

The new library is a central academic information hub that aims to facilitate access to resources and connect users to community information. The 50 thousand square foot facility is designed as a space to connect, create, and collaborate. With over 150 computer stations, 17 thousand square feet of study space, and multipurpose spaces for events, meetings, and seminars.

East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office have ruled the death of a six-month-old left in a car all day last month an accident. Sean Richardson has more.

The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s has arrested a Pitkin woman for murder after she allegedly killed her husband. Deputies say 53-year-old Melissa Ann Sweat called authorities and they responded to a home in Pitkin and found 61-year-old Rodney Sweat dead. Melissa Ann Sweat was taken into custody. No details on what led to the shooting.

The Pelicans have signed small forward Javonte Green. Green played in nine games for the Chicago Bulls last season and averaged 12 points and seven rebounds. Green is known for his ability to dunk the basketball.

The longtime voice of Tiger Stadium, Dan Borne, is taking a leave of absence because of medical issues. Borne is hopeful he will return to his public address announcing duties at Tiger Stadium this season, but for now, the voice of Alex Box Stadium, Bill Franques, will fill in for Borne.

USC football coach Lincoln Riley has named Miller Moss as the Trojans starting quarterback. LSU and USC will meet in Las Vegas on September 1st. Moss is replacing Heisman Winning Trophy quarterback Caleb Williams. Moss performed well in the Holiday Bowl last year .

Chandler Fields and Ben Woolridge have been battling to be the Cajuns starting quarterback. Coach MIchael Desormeaux says the training camp battle is over, but the public will have to wait to see who will start against Grambling…

Bienville Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested two people in Jamestown and removed 33 dogs from poor living in poor conditions. 32-year-old Tanya Michelle Griffith and 29-year-old Allen Tyler Meylian face 32 counts of cruelty to Animals. Humane Society of Louisiana Director, Jeff Dorson says since Bienville Parish has no Animal Control Department, animal rescue is up to the Sheriff’s office…

The Humane Society of Louisiana says 26 dogs had to be rehomed after Bienville Parish Sheriff’s deputies charged two people in Jamestown with 32 counts of cruelty to animals. H-S-L Director Jeff Dorson says the Bissell Foundation accepted custody of the dogs and moved them to their headquarters in Michigan. Dorson says it’s a shame something like this happened…

The drinking water was exposed to a toxic herbicide primarily used for weed control.
