Cross says Democrats could consider pressuring Biden to drop out soon to distract from the popularity boost former President Donald Trump will get after the Republican National Convention wraps up.

A recent AP-NORC poll found that almost two-thirds of Democrats think Biden should drop out of the race. Several prominent Democratic lawmakers have also called on Biden to exit. Cross says it will be hard for Biden to recover in time for the Democratic National Convention in August.

Though Biden has said publicly he has no intention of dropping out of the race, reports from Biden campaign staffers indicate he’s considering entertaining the idea.

Three children killed in accidental shootings in Louisiana this week should serve as a reminder to be extra vigilant about gun safety. Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Gerald Sticker says we have a gun culture in the U.S. and especially here in Louisiana.

Sticker reminds gun owners to secure their firearms in a location that is not easily accessible and toconsider storing firearms in a lock box or gun safe. He also advises using trigger locks on all weapons.

In addition to those tips, Sticker says to store guns unloaded and ammunition in a separate location.

In Lafayette Thursday, a four-year-old child was accidentally fatally shot by his 10-year-old brother. In Hammond, a three-year-old boy died after getting his hands on a gun and shooting himself in the face Wednesday. In St. Tammany Parish, Tuesday a 15-year-old girl was killed by a relative who was handling a firearm in another room.

New hope for treating some of the most malignant cancers has been discovered by LSU Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences, Dr. Chen Chen. The treatment uses proteins SSL 11 and PE24 produced by two common bacteria, Staphylococcus (staff ul cock us) and Pseudomonas (sood o moan us). Jimmy Genovese (Gen-o-vez) was unanimously chosen by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors to serve as Northwestern State University’s next president. Genovese says before he was approached about the job six weeks ago, he never saw himself as president.

Genovese currently serves as an Associate Justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court, though he’ll hit the position’s age limit when his term is up in two years. He says he took the job not only to make Northwestern better, but to keep busy after retiring from the Court.

Genovese, who is a distinguished member of Northwestern’s “Long Purple Line” Alumni Hall of Distinction, says his first priority is reversing Northwestern’s declining enrollment rate. He also says any rumors that Governor Jeff Landry pressured him to vacate his Supreme Court position are false.

Genovese, who currently serves as an Associate Justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court, is a distinguished member of Northwestern State University’s “Long Purple Line” Alumni Hall of Distinction and says the opportunity to lead a university that holds a special place in his heart is a privilege. He will assume his role next month.

A former art teacher in Lafourche Parish has been sentenced to 40 years for sexually abusing a student. The Lafourche Parish District Attorney’s office says Ralph Cheramie Jr. sexually abused his victim while she was his student at a middle school in 2009.

A third Louisiana child this week has died from a Gunshot would. Lafayette police responded to reports of a wounded child on Brian Street. The four-year-old was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where the child was pronounced dead. The incident is under investigation. Earlier this week Letlow was in Milwaukee at the Republican National Convention. The Monroe native acknowledges that since the assassination attempt on former President Trump’s life Saturday, there seems to be a concerted effort to promote unity and polite dialogue among the political parties.

Flags over the State Capitol and all state buildings are flying at half-staff today. Governor Jeff Landry signed an order to honor Corey Comperatore. He is the former fire chief killed during the assassination attempt of Former President Donald Trump on July 13th. Comperatore  used his own body to shield his family from the shooter. He served as a soldier in the Army Reserve and as fire chief at the Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department. Comperatore is being laid to rest in Freeport, Pennsylvania today.

Rayville Republican Julia Letlow officially qualified for re-election today as Louisiana’s fifth district congresswoman. Letlow left the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee so she can qualify in person at the State Archives Building in Baton Rouge. She acknowledges that since the assassination attempt on former President Trump, there is a concerted effort to promote unity and polite dialogue among the political parties.

The LSU football program has received a commitment from the nation’s number one cornerback. His name is DJ Pickett from Tampa, Florida. He’s six-foot-four, 180 pounds and Pickett says he chose the Tigers over Oregon and Miami, because of LSU secondary coach Corey Raymond, who has history of developing defensive backs who have been selected in the NFL draft. On-three-dot-com ranks LSU’s 2025 class as the third best in the country behind Alabama and Ohio State.

LSU Baseball Coach Jay Johnson is also hot on the recruiting trail. Left-handed pitcher Cooper Williams decommitted from Texas A-and-M and committed to LSU. Perfect Game ranks Williams as the 12th best left-hander in the country. He’s six-foot-four, 175 pounds from Alvin, Texas. Pickett features a 93-mile per hour fastball and Perfect Game says he also has a big slider and changeup.

Louisiana Tech catcher Jorge Corona has signed a free agent deal with the Chicago White Six. The Miami native hit .316 with 16 homers and 51 RBIs last season.

U-L Lafayette Athletics Director Dr. Bryan Maggard has signed a contract extension through June 2029. Maggard, who joined the Ragin’ Cajuns in 2017, says his challenge for the future is navigating NIL deals.
