Governor Jeff Landry signed the Positioning Louisiana to Win bill Tuesday which reorganizes Louisiana Economic Development and establishes a private sector-led board to advise LED. Landry stressed the reorganized LED intends to focus on small and existing Louisiana businesses as much as attracting new ones to the state.

The LED senior leadership team was also announced at the signing.

Another bill recently signed by Governor Landry aims to curb the state’s pet overpopulation. The bill allows the Pet Overpopulation Advisory Council to sell commemorative pet stamps with the proceeds supporting spay and neuter programs around the state. The stamps cost a minimum of $15 and will be decorative, not used for postage. The Humane Society of Louisiana says the obvious selling point is that the proceeds go to programs that reduce the burgeoning pet overpopulation.

Attorney General Liz Murrill was in Eagle Pass Texas Monday visiting the southern border. She’s the latest elected Louisiana official to make the visit where Louisiana National Guard troops are assisting Texas Law enforcement and other National Guardsmen in Operation Lone Star as they look to get a handle on illegal immigration. While there, Murrill thanked the Louisiana Guardsman and told them she prayed for their safe return home.

Laine says treatment with the polysaccharides, CM101 and PS1, shows promise with minimal side effects because they target the blood supply and not the tumor itself which also prevents the tumor from becoming resistant to treatment.

South Carolina baseball is set to hire former Notre Dame and LSU Head Coach Paul Mainieri later this afternoon. Tiger Rag editor Todd Horne says the move is a little shocking after Mainieri retired just three seasons ago, citing health concerns at 63 years old.

The hire is awaiting the approval of South Carolina’s Board of Trustees, but it is expected to pass later today.

LSU baseball has received a commitment from USF pitcher Chandler Dorsey. Dorsey was a sophomore right hander last season for the Bulls and did not allow an earned run in 18 of his 26 relief appearances.

And NC State defeated Georgia 8 to 5 last night to make it to the MCWS.

The Saints will begin their three-day mandatory minicamp today. New Orleans will try to improve their defensive line play after the unit has struggled to be successful the last couple of seasons. One bright spot on the defensive line, according to Locked On Saints Podcast host Ross Jackson, has been the play of sixth round pick Khristian Boyd.

The body of a boy who went missing in an Ascension Parish pond has been recovered. Around 6 pm last night, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office says they received a call that a 12-year-old went into a pond in the Keystone Subdivision in Prairieville and never resurfaced. Dive teams from the Gonzales Fire Department, East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, and LDWF agents assisted with the search. The body was recovered at 12:30 this morning.

 

Nunez Community College in Chalmette is set to kick off a first-in-the-state associate’s program training students as entry-level wind turbine technicians. Dean of Instruction Reggie Poche (Po-shay) says besides hands-on training for a field with above average pay, there’s another reason to consider becoming a wind turbine technician…

Tiger Rag editor Todd Horne says it’s a surprise after Mainieri retired three seasons ago citing health concerns.

Three women were attacked by sharks of the coast of Florida with one woman losing her left arm.  Sean Richardson has more from a shark expert in New Orleans.

The resentencing for Cardell Hayes was continued on Monday morning until July 22 as members of the victim’s family were unable to be in court and give statements if needed. The judge decided those family members had a right to be in court, so the judge granted a motion for continuance filed by prosecutors. In April, the 36-year-old Hayes was convicted in the death of former New Orleans Saints star will smith during a confrontation following a car crash in 2016.

Three shark attacks off Florida coast last week sent three women  to the hospital.  Audubon Aquarium of the Americas curator Kristine Grzendasays worldwide there are only around 7,200 shark attacks annually so while the chances are very rare you still need to remain alert at the beach.

South Carolina baseball is set to hire former Notre Dame and LSU Head Coach Paul Mainieri later this afternoon. Mainieri retired from coaching the Tigers in 2021 because of different health issues. He has an overall coaching record of 1,501 wins, 775 loses, as well as 8 ties and has led both LSU and Notre Dame to the MCWS. The move comes after South Carolina fired long time head coach Mark Kingston after seven seasons.

LSU baseball has received a commitment from USF pitcher Chandler Dorsey. Dorsey was a freshman right hander last season for the Bulls and posted a 3.60 ERA over 30 innings of work. Dorsey will look to improve a Tiger pitching staff that really struggled at times during the regular season, but pitched very well during this past postseason.

And NC State defeated Georgia 8 to 5 last night to make it to the MCWS. The Wolfpack had 15 hits on the night and 8 of the 9 hitters in their lineup had at least one hit.
