The Saints wrapped up their three-day mandatory minicamp today, but running back Alvin Kamara left early due to ongoing contract disputes. The soon-to-be 29-year-old is entering what is effectively the final year of his current deal, and extension talks have stalled. Kamara just saw the 49ers’ Christian McCaffrey sign a two-year extension earlier this month but the team is hesitant to commit to the aging back whose production has decreased in recent years.

Also absent from practice was starting tight end Juwan Johnson. Johnson is scheduled to undergo foot surgery next week which will leave him sidelined for significant time into training camp.

Three LSU baseball players received All-American Honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Third Baseman Tommy White, right-handed pitcher Luke Holman, and left-handed pitcher Griffin Herring were all named to the Second-Team All-America squad. The trio was also joined by first baseman Jared Jones on the 20224 American Baseball Coaches Association All-South region first team. Second baseman Steven Milam, designated hitter Hayden Travinsky, and left-handed pitcher Gage Jump were named to the second-team.

LSU Baseball Head Coach Jay Johnson has already begun rebuilding his roster after losing nine players to the transfer portal so far with more expected to depart in the MLB draft. The Tigers will have to rely on bringing in transfers including junior college talent. Outfielder Tanner Reaves of Blinn College denied a scholarship from LSU for the 2024 season after hitting 20 homers his freshman season. A year later, Johnson says he’s ready to finally bring the versatile slugger to Baton Rouge…

Reaves will join four other JUCO commits expected to join the Tigers next season.

The Pelicans announced their 2024 preseason schedule. Play will tip off in New Orleans October 7 against the Magic before heading to Orlando. The Pels will stay on the road as they visit the Heat the 13th and Rockets the 15th to close out preseason play.

LSU baseball has been rebuilding its roster after losing nine players to the transfer portal . The Tigers have received commitments from some talented portal players including many successful junior college players like Fullerton Junior College first baseman Trevor Schmidt. Schmidt hit 13 home runs last season and LSU Head Coach Jay Johnson says he can add some power into the Tigers lineup.

Cut 19 (18) “… some power.”

The Tigers have also bolstered their rotation with Zac Cowan and Camden Wicker of Wofford coming to LSU. Cowan was the sophomore ace for Wofford who finished this season with a 10 and 2 record and 124 strikeouts in 110 innings pitched. Wicker was a strong freshman right hander for Wofford who had a 4.28 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 75 innings of work.

The Boston Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks last night 106 to 99. The Celtics are now up three games on the Mavs and are one win away from their eighteenth NBA championship and first championship since 2008.

The LSU Lady Tigers will participate in year two of the ACC/SEC Challenge and this time the Tigers opponent will be women’s college basketball blue blood Stanford. Last year, LSU hosted Virginia Tech and collected LSU Head Coach Kim Mulkey’s 700th win.
