LSU Men’s basketball will play their final road game tonight as they face off against Arkansas. The Tigers have already defeated the Razorbacks this season 95 to 74 and a major reason for the 21 point victory was holding Arkansas senior guard Khalif Battle to 0 points. After averaging 37 points over the last three games, LSU Head Coach Matt McMahon says that there is no doubt in his mind that Battle is a special player.

The New Orleans Pelicans had a very successful game against the Raptors last night winning 139 to 98. The Pelicans victory saw the team shooting almost 50 percent from the three point line and Trey Murphy the third had a season high 34 points for New Orleans.

And in college basketball news, ULM’s season has come to an end as the War Hawks lost to Coastal Carolina in the first round of the Sun Belt Championship tournament 75 to 71.

LSU Baseball will travel to face Southeastern tonight. The Lions look to be a promising team under first year head coach Bobby Barbier after going 9 and 4 to start this season including a win over eleventh ranked East Carolina and a 12 to 2 win over Alcorn State last night. LSU Head Coach Jay Johnson says that he’s excited for tonight’s matchup and environment.

And in women’s college basketball news, Angel Reese was voted the SEC player of the year; as the Lady Tigers earned many honors at the SEC’s postseason awards.

One juvenile male has been arrested and another suspect is on the run following a carjacking which slammed into a police vehicle in Lafayette on Tuesday. Lafayette Police Lieutenant Jace Quebedeaux says the carjacking happened when the victim was returning home.

Shreveport Senator Thomas Pressly is introducing legislation for stiff penalties for such a crime. Louisiana already has penalties against physicians who perform abortions and Pressly says he wants to go a step further for domestic situations like his sister’s.

Legislation to ban live streaming illegal activities on social media has been filed by Representative Dixon McMakin.  Current law prohibits posting images or videos, but his proposal extends to recording crimes in real time. He says they would have to identify the difference between a recording in real-time and a pre-taped.

An officer involved shooting in Lafayette Parish has resulted in the arrest of 30-year-old Michael Brumley of Scott. State Police say Scott Police officers responded to a domestic disturbance on Saturday when they encountered Brumley who was armed with a knife. L-S-P says a Taser gun was not effective against Brumley and a second officer fired his weapon. Brumley was released from the hospital and booked into jail yesterday.

At the boys basketball high school playoffs…Marksville will play for a state championship for the first time since 2005 after beating Richwood 60-52. Marksville will face Red River who downed Donaldsonville 56-45. The Bulldogs from Coushatta are seeking their first state title since 1999.

The second ranked LSU baseball team heads to Hammond tonight to face Southeastern Louisiana who is off to a 9-4 start under first year head coach Bobby Barbier. The Tigers will start freshman left-hander Kade Anderson on the mound and expect Coach Jay Johnson to keep rotating players in and out of the line-up….

Last night. Southeastern defeated Alcorn State 12 to 2 in seven innings. Louisiana Tech improved to 12-0 on the season with an 11 to three win over Xavier. Jorge Corona hit a two run homer and drove in three runs on the night. Dalton Davis and Ethan Bates also drove in three runs.

ULM was a big win over Little Rock 11 to 1. Joe Haggard homered as the Warhawks have won five of their last six. Tulane outscored Nicholls 14 to 12.

Hurricanes like Ida, Issacc, and Katrina have caused repetitive flooding in St. John, St. Charles, and St. James parishes but the decades-long delays to The Westshore Hurricane Protection Project designed to provide protection has driven the cost up.  Graves says the recently reallocated funds will help to continue the project as he works to secure the funds needed to complete the project.

The LSU baseball team will take the field tonight in Hammond against the Southeastern Lions. The Lions have gotten out to a strong start under first year coach Bobby Barbier and the 2nd-ranked Tigers have started the season 11-and-1. LSU Coach Jay Johnsohn says this game between I-12 rivals was the last one added to the schedule but he’s glad they were able to fit it in…

Johnson has juggled outfielders to start the season with Paxton Kling, Josh Person, Jake Brown, and Mac Bingham all seeing quality playing time. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office says a woman is recovering from her injuries after fatally stabbing a twice convicted sex offender who attacked her at a laundromat near Lacombe on Sunday. The man killed has been identified as 40-year-old Nicholas Tranchant who was on parole.

Legislation that allows non felon adults to conceal carry a firearm in a restaurant that serves alcohol has been filed for the upcoming regular session. New Iberia Senator Blake Miguez  says the measure aims to make sure there’s an even set of rules for all gun owners.

Miguez points out his bill prohibits conceal carry in bars where more than 50 percent of its sale is alcohol.

Jennings Representative Troy Romero has pre-filed a bill for the regular session to allow the Department of Child and Family Services to prohibit the purchase of unhealthy foods with SNAP benefits. He says Louisiana is among the unhealthiest states in the country, he’s hoping his legislation will change that.
