The LSU women’s basketball team takes on Auburn today in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament. The Lady Tigers lost to Auburn on the Plains in January but beat the War Eagles at home last month. SEC Freshman of the Year Mikayla Williams is questionable for the tournament with a foot injury.

The Ragin Cajuns men’s basketball team has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Tournament after beating Coastal Carolina 80 to 66 yesterday. U-L Lafayette will play Arkansas State tomorrow afternoon.

Louisiana Tech will not win a Conference USA regular season championship as they lost to Sam Houston for a second time this season last night, 72 to 66. The Bulldogs will conclude the regular season on Saturday against Middle Tennessee.

The second ranked LSU baseball team hosts Xavier this weekend. It’s the final non-conference three game series of the year. Louisiana Tech hosts Southern Miss, Tulane is at U-L Lafayette.

Saints safety Tyrann Mathieu has signed a two-year deal that will pay him 13-million dollars through the 2025 season. Mathieu was selected by the Saints as their nominee for the 2023 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year for his community service work. He’s also playing at a high level. In his two seasons in New Orleans, he’s started all 34 games and intercepted seven passes. But he wants to lead the Black and Gold to the playoffs

It’s a big day for the Louisiana State Police.  The 103rd cadet class graduated 33 new troopers. Captain Nick Manale says the cadets began their journey nearly six months ago.

Louisiana National Guard spokesperson Lt. Col. Noel (No-elle) Collins says 50 soldiers have been deployed to the Texas border in support of Operation Lone Star. Collins says among the duties they would likely assist with is patrolling and enhancing some of the obstacle emplacements along the border.

Governor Landry has signed off on LANG’s request for $3 million to cover their expenses and pay allowances.

33 new troopers graduated from the Louisiana State Police 103rd cadet class today. While they are excited about adding new troopers, Captain Nick Manale they continue to look for qualified men and women to join the ranks.

Soldiers from the Louisiana National Guard are among the more than a dozen states participating in Operation Lone Star at the Texas border. LANG spokesperson, Lt. Col. Noel (No-elle) Collins says 50 soldiers will be deployed for three rotations.

Collins says Texas has asked for Louisiana guardsmen to arrive no later than March 15th.

Soldiers from the 2-108th Cavalry Squadron in Shreveport will participate in the first rotation and soldiers from the 61st Troop Command, based in Carville will round out the two remaining rotations. And are currently scheduled to remain in place until approximately mid-June.

Collins says among the duties they would likely assist with is patrolling and enhancing some of the obstacle emplacements along the border.

Crowley police are looking for the individuals who fired shots at another man but hit a five-year-old instead. Authorities say the toddler was walking home from her bus stop with her father when the shooting started in the 500 block of West Andrus. The child was taken to a local hospital, but her condition is unknown. The investigation is ongoing.

The New Orleans Saints will be left with Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed to lead their receiver room as all roads point to the Saints parting ways with receiver Michael Thomas when the 2024 season officially begins on March 13th. Locked on Saints Podcast Host Ross Jackson says that the Saints will make depth at the wide receiver position a priority in the new season.

Through the last two seasons, Mathieu has started all 34 games with the Saints, recorded 166 tackles, and has brought a key veteran presence to the New Orleans secondary.

The early days of LSU spring practice are now here as LSU co-offensive coordinators Joe Sloan and Cortez Hankton look to find a new way to keep LSU the nation’s number one offense after the key departures of Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers, and Brain Thomas Jr. LSU Head Coach Brian Kelly says that the new offense will have a new look that suits this year’s offensive roster.

The owners of a farm where a two faced calf was born say the calf is making progress as it’s a week old. Deux Face is being cared for at Breaux Farms in Vermilion Parish. She has four eyes, two noses, two mouths and her head is very heavy for her body. Deux Face faces long odds of living past a month.

Governor Landry has signed off on a bill to deploy members of the Louisiana National Guard to Texas to help in Operation Lone Star at the southern border. The amount approved for funding the operation to cover salaries and expenses is $3 million. 50 soldiers will serve at one time in three rotations over 90 days.

A bill that would allow judges the sentencing option of vasectomies for convicted sex offenders has been filed for the regular session. New Orleans Representative Delisha Boyd says House Bill 166 is simple and gets straight to the point.

She says sex offenders are usually repeat offenders and this would protect women who are raped from getting pregnant.
