Two 14-year-old girls have been arrested for terrorizing after authorities were alerted to a Snap Chat conversation in which the girls allegedly discussed shooting up the school to kill one of their teachers. The Girls are students at a Mandeville area High School and St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office says the FBI notified them of the conversation in which the girls discuss their possession of handguns but no guns were found in searches of their homes.

On February 14th and 15th, the Department of Insurance will hold a hearing on the proposed sale of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana to Indiana-based Elevance Health. Senate Health and Welfare had their meeting and Chairman Patrick McMath says Blue Cross is a local nonprofit while Elevance is a for-profit company that has to answer to stockholders. He says in states that Elevance has acquired a Blue Cross Blue Shield, premiums have gone up…

A study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences suggests global warming has prompted the need for an additional Saffir-Simpson scale storm category. LSU Climatologist Barry Keim says the jury is still out…

Blue Cross covers one-point-nine million people in Louisiana.

For the sale to go through 92-thousand policyholders will be asked to vote and two-thirds of them will need to approve it. Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple will also have to sign off on it.

The Department of Insurance will hold a two-day hearing on the proposed sale on February 14th and 15th.

When the sale was announced in January 2023, Elevance and Blue Cross said the acquisition would improve access, quality, affordability and the customer service experience.

McNeese men’s basketball coach Will Wade has agreed to a new five-year contract that will pay him 700-thousand dollars annually. That’s a lucrative contract for a school in the Southland Conference. Wade has led the Cowboys to a 20-3 season which has garnered them national attention. The former LSU coach says the best is yet to come for the Pokes…

Big night for Brandon Ingram last night as the Pelicans forward had a season-high 41 points in a 138 to 100 win over Toronto. Ingram was 16 of 21 from the field and drained eight three-pointers. The Pels will begin a four-game road trip tomorrow night in Los Angeles against the Clippers.

In college basketball last night…both Grambling and Southern won and they stay tied for first place in the SWAC. The Jaguars beat Jackson State 72-63, while Grambling had four players in double figures in a 78-67 win over Alcorn State.

McNeese got back into the win column last night with a 77-51 win over Texas A-and-M Commerce. And this afternoon the Cowboys will announce a new contract for Coach Will Wade, a five-year deal worth 700-thousand dollars.

Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls were also winners last night. The Lions have won three in a row, the Colonels have a four game winning streak.

LSU Sophomore catcher Brady Neal is back behind the plate after a back injury forced him to miss the second half of the season last year. Neal says he tried to stay involved as much as he could last year…

With the shortage of truck drivers, there are initiatives underway to recruit more women to the profession, but Executive Director of the Louisiana Motor Transport Association Renee Amar says there are legitimate safety concerns for female drivers with the lack of truck parking. Because truckers are limited by the number of driving hours, looking for a safe area to pull off the road is problematic.

King Charles has been diagnosed with cancer and will be stepping away from royal duties. LSU History Professor Meredith Veldman says she does admire that the King has opted to go public with his health concerns and notes that it is harder however to keep such information private upon the advent of social media.

Eleven months after McNeese State signed basketball coach Will Wade to its second largest contract ever at $1.175 million for five years he’s been signed to a new five-year contract at $700,000 annually. The Cowboys will have a noon presser today on the contract extension.

Port of New Orleans cruise passenger numbers are back to pre-pandemic levels with one point two million passenger movements. Teiko Foxx has more.
