The Saints did their part yesterday and they put up a beat down on the Atlanta Falcons, beating the Dirty Birds 48-17. But despite the win, New Orleans is not in the playoffs as the teams they needed to lose all won on the final regular season Sunday in the NFL.

The game ended with some fireworks as the Saints scored the final touchdown with three seconds left as Jamaal Williams scored on a one-yard run. Atlanta Coach Arthur Smith was upset and let Saints Coach Dennis Allen know as he refused to shake his hand at the end of the game. Allen says he wanted Jameis Winston to take a knee…

It was a big weekend for the LSU football program as the Tigers received a verbal commitment from the nation’s number one prospect, Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood. He’s a 2025 recruit.

Blake Baker will be LSU’s defensive coordinator next season. Baker replaces Matt House, who was LSU’s defensive coordinator for two seasons. In the three-month-long regular session that begins in March, legislators will address the state’s property insurance crisis and what could be done to lower premiums. After electing their legislative leaders this morning, the next order of business for lawmakers will be a special session to redraw the Congressional district map. The courts have ruled that the map should contain two majority-minority districts. Republicans were committed in 2022 to having a map with only one black voting district. Baker was LSU’s linebackers coach in 2021. He was the defensive coordinator at Louisiana Tech from 2015 to 2018. The Houston native is also a former Tulane linebacker. This past season, Baker played a major role in Missouri’s 11-2 season. Mizzou was fourth in the SEC in scoring defense and fifth in total defense. Horne says Baker has a good resume and head coach Brian Kelly needs this hire to work out…

The governor will be sworn in at 4:30 tomorrow afternoon on the steps of the State Capitol, though by law he will not officially take office till Monday at noon. The Inauguration Ball will still take place Monday evening at 7.

Two of the five Neville High students hospitalized after yesterday’s fatal fire at a Mississippi deer camp, have reportedly been released. KNOE TV reports two are still being treated for smoke inhalation and one has been transferred to the burn center at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. A 15 year old died as the result of that fire.
Jefferson County Sheriff James Bailey says his deputies were among the first on scene…

Governor-elect Jeff Landry has said he wants to pass legislation to reduce crime, lower property insurance rates and improve public education. Council for a Better Louisiana President Barry Erwin says the new governor will back legislation that he knows can get the necessary votes in the Legislature…

2023 saw rising interest rates in the real estate market. But experts believe mortgage rates will settle in 2024 between five and six percent. The cost of homeowners insurance in the state is also a bit hurdle for potential buyers. Louisiana Realtors CEO Norman Morris on working with Louisiana lawmakers and new insurance commissioner to make them more affordable.

Louisiana’s new Legislature will be sworn in on Monday. Republicans will be in control of both the executive and legislative branches. You may recall, there was conflict between Governor Edwards and the Republican controlled Legislature. Sad news as a 15-year-old student from Neville High School in Monroe is dead and five of his classmates injured after their deer camp caught on fire early Friday morning. Neville Tiger Network identified the student who died as Junior Tarver Braddock who was on the football and baseball teams.

Bad night for the Pelicans last night as their four-game winning streak was snapped falling to the Los Angeles Clippers 111 to 95. The 95 points were the second-fewest scored by New Orleans this season. The 21-and-15 Pels begin a tough five-game road trip on Sunday in Sacramento.

SEC play begins tonight for the LSU men’s basketball team as the Tigers are at Texas A-and-M. Louisiana Tech is at Sam Houston to begin Conference USA play. The Ragin Cajuns and ULM are both at home today looking for their first victories in Sun Belt play.
