The LSU Lady Tigers defeated the Texas A&M Aggies 87 to 70 last night. The game was highlighted by Angel Reese’s 20 points and 18 rebounds against Texas A&M’s no.1 nationally ranked point allowed defense. Reese also had 7 assists on the night and says that she is willing to sacrifice her personal statistics for the team’s gain.

LSU will travel to take on Auburn on Sunday where tipoff will be at 2 pm on ESPN.

The Pelicans are on a roll as they have won 6 of their last 7 games after a 141 to 105 win against the Warriors on Wednesday. New Orleans will take on the Nuggets tonight at 9:00 pm on ESPN in an effort to build their lead for the Southwest Division crown. Currently the Pelicans are a half a game ahead at 23 and 15.

In Louisiana basketball news, LA Tech returned to its defensive identity as the Bulldogs defeated Middle Tennessee 60 to 52 last night. LA Tech improved to 1 and 1 in Conference USA play by holding Middle Tennessee to only 38.9 percent shooting from the field and forcing 18 turnovers on the night. The Bulldogs will take on Liberty at 2 pm on Sunday and the game will be broadcast on ESPN 2. ULM was also in action yesterday, but the Warhawks fell to Southern Miss 71 to 58 after going back and forth with the Golden Eagles during the first half in which 8 point leads were exchanged.

The NFL playoffs will start tomorrow as Dak Prescott, the former Haughton high school star, is looking to lead the Cowboys to their first Super Bowl since 1996. In order to reach that goal, the Cowboys will need to defeat the Green Bay Packers on Sunday and the game will kickoff at 3:30pm on FOX. Dereck Stingley Jr will take the field in his first playoff game when the Browns play the Texans on Saturday at 3:30 pm on NBC. The Steelers will also have a former Tiger on defense, as Patrick Peterson will play against the Bills in their Wild Card matchup.

The National Weather Service urges Louisianans to prepare for the coldest weather the state has seen in years by Sunday, bringing temperatures as low as thirteen degrees north of I-20 next week. Shreveport Meteorologist Carly Kovacik (Co-vah-check) expects temperatures to be dangerously cold in some parts of the state by Monday.

Kovacik expects the northern part of the state will experience a hard freeze. She says snow, sleet, and freezing rain cannot be ruled out by Monday morning into Tuesday night.

In Bogalusa police are investigating a shooting that killed on student outside of Bogalusa High School’s basketball game last night. Police say both students involved were under the age of 18, they were taken to a local hospital where one died and as of this morning the other student was still being treated for injuries.

We’ve already learned that the 2024 crawfish season is going to be one of the worst ever in terms of supply and prices due to the severe drought. And now LSU Agent Crawfish Specialist Mark Shirley warns the outlook for next year isn’t promising either.

He says the fields that don’t have crawfish this year will have to be restocked and with limited availability, it creates issues for the 2025 crop.

A West Monroe High School teacher has been charged with indecent behavior with a minor. The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office 32-year-old Tatum Hatch allegedly had an improper relationship with one of her students and sent the victim inappropriate messages via Instagram.

Governor Jeff Landry is pushing for closed primary elections. Voters would have to be registered with a political party to vote in that party’s primary. Landry believes if voters want their vote to county they should register with the party of their choice.

While redrawing the state’s congressional districts at the special session lawmakers could also debate changing to closed primary elections.

Two students were shot last night outside a Bogalusa High School Basketball game. One fatally. Police there say the deadly shooting happened around 8:45 at the game against Covington High. Both students, under the age of 18, were taken to Our Lady of The Angels Hospital, where one later died. according to the Bogalusa Police Department. The shooting remains under investigation this morning.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is reminding residents of home heating safety following a fatal house fire in Washington Parish. Spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says common heating-related causes of fires are preventable. She suggests plugging space heaters into wall outlets…

A statewide search is underway for this year’s Longest Married Couple in Louisiana award. Louisiana Family Forum President Gene Mills says he wants to showcase couples who’ve been married 70 years or more.

A strong line of storms is moving through the northern part of our state and the national weather service has issued a tornado watch for Northeast Louisiana, including Monroe that will remain in effect until eleven this morning. The next big weather change isn’t expected until Monday with temperatures expected to dip below freezing throughout the state along with wintry precipitation.

The state has closed party primaries for the president and did for Congress in 2008 and 2010. Landry, who was elected to Congress in 2010 says now it’s a problem because our representation in DC could be decided as late as December.

A violent morning Thursday in St. Bernard Parish ended with the death of the alleged perpetrator after he attacked a 25-year-old woman in Violet and fled in her car. St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James Pohlman says the suspect was 27 year old Deiondre Brock and says they don’t believe Brock and the victim knew each other.

The 7th ranked LSU women’s basketball team won its 16th straight game last night as the Lady Tigers took down Texas A&M 87-70. The Aggies came into the game ranked number one in the nation for points allowed at 49 a game. But LSU nearly scored 90 points. Coach Kim Mulkey….

ULM falls to 0-4 in the Sun Belt with a loss to Southern Miss 71-58. Louisiana Tech got a nice win on the road as the Bulldogs knocked off Middle Tennessee 60-52. 24th ranked FAU edged Tulane 85-84.

The surging Pelicans have a big game tonight in Denver as they take on the defending NBA champion Nuggets. New Orleans is 23-15, winners in seven of their last ten and in sixth place in the West. The Nuggets are 26-13 and in third place. Four Pelican players are listed as questionable with injuries, Zion Williamson, C-J McCollum, Trey Murphy and Brandon Ingram. Tip time is at 9.

The LSU men’s basketball team will try to go 3-0 in the SEC tomorrow when they visit 16th-ranked Auburn. LSU and Auburn are among five teams in the league with a 2-0 conference record.

In the Southland tomorrow…13-and-2 McNeese hosts Southeastern Louisiana. Nicholls battles Lamar in Thibodaux in a matchup of two teams that are 2-0 in league play and Northwestern State looks for its first conference win as they host U-I-W.

In the Sun Belt…the Cajuns are at Arkansas State, while ULM hosts Texas State.

The national weather service has issued tornado watch 10 for that now includes ten parishes in north central Louisiana. That watch includes the northern third of our state including Monroe and Shreveport and will remain in effect until eleven this morning.

Talk of Louisiana changing from an open-party primary election to a closed one is being met with controversy. Some believe because politically unaffiliated voters wouldn’t be allowed to vote in a primary they aren’t represented.  But a longtime political advisor to Governor Jeff Landry, Brent Littlefield says otherwise…

Legislation to change to a closed-party primary could be introduced at next week’s special session.

Parts of Northwest Louisiana may have noticed the earth move this morning. An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.8 centered near Hall Summit in Red River Parish struck just before 9:00. While not a very large one. Some area residents took to social media to comment on their homes shaking as a result.

There’s a crawfish crisis ongoing because of last year’s drought. LSU Ag Center crawfish specialist Mark Shirley is predicting this could be the worst season ever. Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain says he’s spoken to a few farmers who have pressed pause on fishing…

Strain says they’ll have a better idea in three weeks on how bad the season could be.

Nick Saban is heading into retirement after winning seven national championships, six of them at Alabama and one at LSU in 2003. Former LSU quarterback Marcus Randall played for Saban and there’s a reason why he’s considered the greatest college football coach of all time.
