There’s a potential for some severe weather Saturday in Louisiana. Brooke Thorington has more.

A 13 year old Madisonville girl was arrested Friday after telling a classmate she was going to “shoot up” her junior high school. St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office became aware of the incident after the other student informed a teacher. The girl was issued a menacing summons and released on a custodial agreement to appear in court.

The first 13 homes to have a fortified roof installed through the Louisiana Fortified Roof Grant Program have been completed. Homeowner Alicia Craige is among them. In order to comply with insurance requirements, Craige says she needed to get her roof repaired immediately so she applied online.

Louisiana is about to see a significant mercury drop, the high today will be in the 70s. But State Climatologist Barry Keim says after the rain moves through get ready for a much colder Sunday with highs only in the 50s.

Union Parish ended its streak of three consecutive losses in the state championship game with a dramatic 36-35 win over St. James yesterday. Opelousas won the school’s first state championship with a 26-13 win over Cecilia and Catholic High crushed Acadiana 55-31.

The Prep Classic finishes with three more games today. It starts at noon with St. Thomas More taking on Lafayette Christian. Cougars head coach Jim Hightower.

The Farmers executed a two-point conversion with 11 seconds left for the winning score. Today is the final day of the Prep Classic and the first game should be a high-scoring affair as Lafayette Christian takes on St. Thomas More. STM beat LCA in last year’s division two select state title game 52-48 and Cougars Hall of Fame Coach Jim Hightower is expecting another tough game…

Opelousas won its first state championship in football history as they it defeated district rival Cecilia 26-13. The Tigers rushed for 291 yards as D’Shawn Ford had 146 yards and two touchdowns.

Tomorrow, Ruston will try to win its first state title since 1990 when the Bearcats take on Zachary in the Division one non-select state title game. Last year Ruston lost to Destrehan in the championship game and Bearcats coach Jerrod Baugh says…

The Tulane Green Wave are reportedly close to hiring Jon Sumrall as its next head coach. Sumrall just led Troy to back-to-back Sun Belt titles.

A task force convened by Gov.-elect Jeff Landry met this week to weigh the rollback of 2017 laws aimed at lowering Louisiana’s prison population. Outgoing Governor John Bel Edwards meanwhile warned the incoming administration against the move. Edwards says it would be a kneejerk political reaction unlikely to yield real results.

The first 13 homes to have a fortified roof installed through the Louisiana Fortified Roof Grant Program have been completed. Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon stopped by a home in Slidell and says it’s exciting to see the first homes finished.

Qualified homeowners were awarded up to 10 thousand dollars to upgrade their roofs.

Homeowner Alicia Craige is among one of the first to have her roof installed. To comply with insurance requirements, Craige says she needed to get her roof repaired immediately so she applied online.

After getting the green light to move forward, Craige says she selected a contractor and her roof was up. She says the entire process was seamless and she’s pleased with the results.

Craige says she saved 15 hundred dollars on her insurance. The LFHP awarded three thousand grants to homeowners in the Bayou State.

Rain totals shouldn’t be excessive, he says we could have up to an inch and a half of precipitation, and the heavier rain is more likely in northeast Louisiana.

The 2020Teacher of the year at Cypress Cove Elementary in Sulfur has been arrested in Texas for possessing child pornography.  Kenneth Espree, who most recently worked as a music teacher in Klein, Texas, taught music in the Calcasieu Parish School system from 2016 to 2020.  Espree resigned after Texas deputies found child pornography on his computer this fall, leading to his arrest and incarceration on a $200,000 bond.
