A big change in political ideology is expected as the state transitions from a moderate Democrat to a conservative.  Over the last eight years, Governor John Bel Edwards battled with a Republican-controlled legislature. Pinsonat says Landry will benefit from a Legislature that has a super majority of Republicans…

Landry will be sworn in on January 8^th which gives him more time to look at who he wants to bring in to fill his cabinet positions. Pinsonat says it also gives the Louisiana residents time to learn about the new governor’s priorities…

U-S domestic oil production hit an all-time high last week, surpassing the record high set before the pandemic. The Biden Administration has been criticized for being unfriendly to the oil and gas industry. But LSU Interim Director of Energy Studies Greg Upton says White House policies have not slowed production….

Domestic crude production is at 13 million barrels per day.

Republicans claim President Biden’s policies are reducing fossil fuel production. Upton says that’s certainly the case when it comes new exploration in the Gulf of Mexico…

Upton says he doesn’t see domestic oil production slowing down any time soon, especially when there is a huge demand internationally.

Does Louisiana Congressman Mike Johnson have a shot at becoming the next U-S Speaker of the House? Despite being well-liked among his colleagues, ULM Political Science Professor Dr. Joshua Stockley thinks Johnson may be too conservative to get the 217 votes he needs.

The 51-year-old Congressman from the Shreveport-Bossier area told USA Today Network he will nominate himself for House Speaker if Congressman Jim Jordan of Ohio doesn’t get elected. But Stockley believes Jordan will get the necessary votes…

In a second vote last week, Stockley says Jordan increased his support to 152 votes compared to his first vote of 124.

The House is expected to vote today to elect a new speaker.

Twenty legislative races are headed to a run-off, 18 on the House side and two state Senate races will have to be decided on November 18th. La-Politics-dot-com publisher Jeremy Alford says looking back at last Saturday, several competitive state senate races were decided with Blake Miguez, Alan Seabaugh and Patrick Connick all winning…

One of the more interesting runoff races is to watch is House Democrats Cedric Glover and Sam Jenkins battling for a state senate seat in Shreveport.

Six of the 18 runoff races in the House feature an incumbent trying to keep their seat. Livonia Representative Jeremy LaCombe is facing serious challenge from fellow Republican Tammi Fabre. Alford says Lacombe has been a target of conservative republicans…

Three statewide races are also in a runoff, attorney general, secretary of state and state treasurer. The governor’s race has been decided. Alford says interest will be low for the November 18th general election and he doesn’t see it approaching the 36-percent we had for the primary…

The Tigers rank second in the nation in total offense, averaging 550 yards a game, third in scoring at 45 points a game. The U-S House is expected to try again tomorrow and elect a new Speaker of the House. Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves says Ohio Representative Jim Jordan is the top candidate but it’s not a given that he’ll get the 217 votes to replace Kevin McCarthy.

Jordan can only afford to lose no more than four party votes from a 221-212 House Republican majority. Garret says the house is unable to do legislative business and there are a lot of issues that hang in the balance.

Cut 4 (08) “…in Louisiana”

More than fifty Republicans voted against Jordan in a vote on Friday after House Republican Steve Scalise withdrew his bid after being chosen as the party’s first nominee, due to opposition from Jordan supporters. Graves says the focus should be selecting a Speaker so the House can conduct business.

Republican Jeff Landry winning the governor’s race in the primary was a surprise as political observers expected a November run-off. JMC Analytics Pollster John Couvillon says Landry’s tough on crime message connected with the 547-thousand people who voted for him

Couvillon says Landry receiving 12-percent of the Black vote in African-American dominated precincts was also a big key in Saturday’s victory. He says that’s unprecedented for a white candidate in a statewide race to receive that much support from Black voters…

Voter turnout was just 36-percent. Couvillon says Landry had the support of the Republican Party and the anti-voting Landry bloc was not motivated…

A survey by the consumer financial company Bankrate found that 23% of holiday travelers will be taking fewer trips for the holidays and 27% will most likely drive due to higher travel costs. Senior Industry Analyst Ted Rossman says 77 percent of travelers are modifying their plans to save money.

Travelers with lower-income households are more likely to be impacted by inflation at a higher rate. Rossman says planning ahead will help save money this holiday season.

More than one in four travelers are worried their travel plans could be disrupted due to delays or cancellations. Rossman suggests taking advantage of credit cards that have travel insurance policies.
