According to a press release from Northwestern State University, Natchitoches police have made an arrest in the murder of NSU football player, Ronnie Caldweld. Caldweld’s teammates are attending his funeral and memorial services today and tomorrow in Texas.

 

Walker Police have arrested two people involved in the murder 60-year-oid woman who was discovered dead in a wooded area of Livingston Parish. Captain John Sharp says they believe 30-year-old Bobby Schneider of Gonzales killed Sarah Santini in her home…

56-year-old Gregory Baker of Ascension Parish was also arrested. Investigators says Baker helped Schneider dispose of Santini’s body. A motive for the murder has not been established.

Speaking about Monday’s carjacking, Orleans Parish DA Jason Williams says Two men approached as he was helping his mother out of his black Lincoln Navigator in the 1000 block of Race Street, Williams says his thoughts went to Linda Frickey and his greatest concern was his mother.

Four people carjacked 73-year-old Linda Frickey last year in the Mid-City area of New Orleans. Frickey was caught in the seatbelt as assailants drove off in her vehicle — dragging her for a block.

 

Northwestern State University is reporting an arrest has been made in the murder of Ronnie Caldweld. No further details have yet been released. Caldweld’s teammates are attending his funeral and memorial services today and tomorrow in Texas. The NLU Demons played their first football game since Caldweld’s death last night and were defeated by Southeastern Louisiana.

The Southeastern Lions have earned their first win of the season against Northwestern State on Thursday night. The Lions offense gained 539 total yards on their way to the 37-20 victory. The win counts as their 13th straight win against Northwestern State and the Lions are now 1 and 3 in Southland Conference play while Northwestern State falls to 0 and 2.

The New Orleans Saints are coming off a heartbreaking loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars 31 to 24. After a 15 point comeback in the 4th quarter, former LSU tight end Foster Moreau dropped what would have been a game tying touchdown pass from Derek Carr in the final seconds of the game. A new CyberSecurity Operations Center has opened on the LSU campus that will train students how to fight against cyber attacks. Chief Information Officer Craig Wooley says the center will help strengthen cybersecurity statewide and build a homegrown cyber workforce.

Students can enroll in the first dental hygiene program in Central Louisiana through a new program offered by LSU-Alexandria and LSU Health New Orleans. Wilton Guillory Interim Head of LSU School of Dentistry says upon graduation, the four-year program will allow students to work closely with dentists.

50-year-old Judson Eldridge, a professor at LSU Eunice has been arrested for rape and cyberstalking. Authorities say a female victim said Eldridge invited her to his apartment where he allegedly put something in her drink. The victim said when she woke up she was being raped. Eldridge has been placed on administrative leave.

Republican Liz Murrill and Democrat Lindsey Cheek are in a run-off seeking to become the state’s first female Attorney General. Murrill won the primary, receiving 45-percent of the vote. She has spent the last six years as the state’s Solicitor General, defending Louisiana and its laws in federal and state court

The Saints were so close from pulling off a big comeback, but they came up short in a 31-24 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. New Orleans’ offense failed to score in the first three quarters and they were down 24-9. They started playing up tempo and scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter and had a chance at a third, but Foster Moreau dropped a potential touchdown pass in the final seconds that could have led to the game being tied. Quarterback Derek Carr says no one should point the finger at Foster for this loss…

Carr threw for 301 yards and a touchdown. He also threw a pick six and he was again animated on the sidelines expressing his frustration as the offense had several drives fizzle out as they got close to the goal line. The Saints next game is October 29th at Indianapolis.

Last night in Natchitoches, Southeastern Louisiana outscored Northwestern State 16-3 in the second half as the Lions won their first game of the year 37-20. The Demons remain winless and the team will head to Texas to attend the funeral of safety Ronnie Caldwell, who was fatally shot last week.

Saturday’s game between LSU and Army is only the second time these two teams have played each other on the football field. The first game took place in 1931 and Army won 20-0 in West Point. It’s the first time the Tigers have hosted a U-S Service Academy School in football.

The Cajuns host the 5-and-1 Georgia State Panthers tomorrow night for homecoming. In six previous meetings, U-L Lafayette has never lost to the Panthers, but Coach Michael Desormeaux doesn’t care about that stat…

Tough loss for the Saints last night as they dropped to 3-4 on the season with a 31-24 defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars. New Orleans was down 24-9 entering the fourth quarter, but came back to tie it at 24 all. Jacksonville took a 31-24 lead with three minutes left and New Orleans failed to score a game-tying touchdown despite getting inside the ten-yard line.
