State Fire Marshal spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says they believe the fire started in an upstairs apartment over a vacant home. 38-year-old Quintella Chopin and her two children were found in different areas of the home.

30-year-old Douglas Brown has been charged with murder for allegedly shooting his elderly father, 79-year-old John Brown, according to Baton Rouge Police. John Brown was found dead from a gunshot wound on Saturday morning inside the home the two shared. Lt. L’Jean McKneely says evidence led to Douglas Brown’s arrest.

Douglas Brown was booked in the East Baton Rouge Prison.

A 15-year-old male student at Homer High School has been arrested for reportedly bringing a gun to school this morning. Authorities were notified by school staff that a weapon was found in the student’s backpack. Authorities say the teen was taken to the Homer Police Department and arrested and charged with being in possession of a firearm on a school campus. He was transported to a juvenile detention facility in Jonesboro.

A U-S judge in Baton Rouge has denied a request from the state to keep 15 juvenile offenders at Angola, until their appeal is heard on a ruling last week that said the youths must be moved to another facility. Judge Shelly says the juvenile offenders must be re-located from Angola no later than Friday, because their constitutional rights had been violated.

Douglas Brown was booked on counts of second-degree murder, obstruction of justice, and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies.

McKneely says tips and evidence, including surveillance video led to Douglas Brown’s arrest.

US Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy announced he will begin an impeachment inquiry of President Biden in an effort to seek financial records of the president and his son Hunter Biden. Republican Louisiana Congressman Garret Graves says an inquiry doesn’t automatically mean an impeachment hearing is a sure thing.

Rodrigue says the home was engulfed when firefighters responded to the scene. 38-year-old Quintella Chopin and her two children ages seven and two were found in different areas of the home.

While the investigation is still active, the State Fire Marshal was unable to locate any working smoke alarms in the home. The cause of the fire remains unknown.

There was a school shooting in Louisiana yesterday. It happened at St. Helena College and Career Academy which is a high school in Greensburg. Authorities say a 14-year-old student fatally shot another student and wounded two others. The suspected gunman is in custody and classes for today and tomorrow are canceled.

Two children and a mother were tragically killed in a house fire on Marigold Street in St. John the Baptist Parish this morning. Ashley Rodrigue with the State Fire Marshall Office says the fire occurred in an upstairs apartment over a vacant home.

Caddo Sheriff’s Office detectives have arrested an 18-year-old for shooting two brothers, one of them died at a home in Vivian and the other was recovering in the hospital after being shot in the chest. Bond has been set at 1-point-five million dollars for Jadaveuen Dillard of Oil City. He’s facing multiple charges.

Baton Rouge Police have arrested a 30-year-old man after he allegedly fatally shot his 79-year-old father at a home the two shared. Lt. L’Jean McKneely says tips and evidence led to Douglas Brown’s arrest…

Small Business optimism declined in August according to a nationwide survey of small businesses. NFIB state director Dawn McVea says inflation continues to drive costs higher and 40-percent of owners reported job openings that were hard to fill, which impacts sales….

Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore was joined by former NFL player Warrick Dunn as he filed a petition to block clemency hearings for death row prisoners. Dunn’s mother, Baton Rouge police corporal Betty Smothers was killed in 1993 by Kevan Brumfield who is on death row. Dunn says commuting the sentences of these inmates is disrespectful to the victims’ families and in his case, law enforcement.
