This week is Rural Road Safety Awareness Week, and Louisiana Highway Safety Commission reminds motorists to drive carefully, even in remote areas. Spokesperson Gregory Fischer says nearly 62 percent of all fatal crashes in the state in 2021 were on rural roadways.

In 2021, there were over one thousand alcohol-related crashes that injured at least one person and nearly two hundred fatal crashes involving alcohol on Louisiana’s rural roads, according to the Center for Analytics and Research in Transportation Safety. Fischer says this initiative brings attention to topics that will save lives…

Fisher encourages motorists to do their part in promoting safe driving habits. He says everyone has a role to play in keeping the highways safe….

Slidell Gubernatorial candidates, State Senator Sharon Hewitt and Mandeville Representative Richard Nelson reported less than $1 million during first quarter campaign reports. Stockley says this is an important benchmark for all the candidates…

Stockley says former transportation secretary and lone Democrat Shawn Wilson reported less than $1 million dollars but could see a surge in donations over the upcoming months.

LSU won the SEC West last season, but were blown out in the SEC Championship game by Georgia, who went on to win its second consecutive national championship. Kelly says there’s still more work to be done in the area of recruiting before they have the same level of talent as Georgia…

The big story in north Louisiana today is power outages as a strong storm system knocked out power for thousands of customers yesterday. SWEPCO is still reporting 11-thousand customers are without power in Caddo and Bossier Parishes. Entergy Louisiana is reporting another five-thousand outages.

Louisiana lawmakers could overturn the Governor’s rejection of 25 vetoes in a veto override session that will begin tomorrow. Two controversial bills that some have deemed as anti-LGBTQ, including a don’t say gay bill have also been vetoed by Governor Edwards. Chair of the House Republican Delegation and Erath Representative Blake Miguez reference the bill that prohibits medical procedures on minors.

It will take 70 votes in the House and 26 in the Senate to override a governor’s veto.

SLB, a global technology company, will renovate the former General Motors Plant in Shreveport into a manufacturing facility creating nearly 600 jobs over the next three years. Vice President of Industry Affairs of North America Bruce Miller says the company will participate in a solution-based workforce training program…

SEC Football Media Days begin today in Nashville. The defending SEC West champion Tigers are one of three schools set to be featured today. Coach Brian Kelly and players Jayden Daniels, Josh Williams and Mekhi Wingo will face hundreds of reporters as they look forward to a highly anticipated season after the team exceeded expectations in Kelly’s first year. Coming off a ten-win season and trip to the Sec championship, many fans will hope to improve and compete for a national title. Host of the Locked On LSU podcast Caroline Fenton says even of the Tigers fall short of their lofty goals, it doesn’t mean the program has taken a step back…

Kelly has even said in an interview with USA Today that with another year of recruiting, 2024 is a more realistic year to make a title run.

Veteran free agent wide receiver Deandre Hopkins is expected to sign to a two-year $26 million deal with the Titans. Hopkins was cut by the Cardinals earlier this offseason due to his contract’s over 30 million dollar expected cap hit. After months of speculation and visits to potential teams, the 31 year-old receiver will be joining Tennessee as the number one wide out across from second year wide receiver Treylon Burks. Hopkins, who has consistently been one of the league’s top receivers since being drafted by the Texans in 2013, will visit New Orleans in week one as the Saints open the season in the dome September 10th.

Saints linebacker Demario Davis held the first graduation of his Devoted Dreamers Academy this weekend. Founded by Davis and his wife Tamela in 2013, the academy provides college prep and business of sport experience labs for 8th through 12th grade students.

The Summer League has wrapped up for the New Orleans Pelicans after falling to the 76ers last night 117-114. The next time New Orleans will be on the court will be in Smoothie King Center for their preseason home opener October 10th.

Louisiana lawmakers are returning to the capital for a veto override session tomorrow. Brooke Thorington has more.

A woman has been hospitalized after “a massive tree” fell on her car during a thunderstorm in Caddo Parish on Sunday. Authorities say the female was trapped inside of her car but was conscious and in good spirits. SWEPCO reports 19,000 customers in northwest Louisiana remain without power due to the storm.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has increased the daily catch for red snapper from three to four beginning today. LDWF fisheries biologist Jason Adriance says the new daily creel limit of four red snappers also applies to federal waters off Louisiana, except for federally permitted charter boats…

For the second time in history, the Screen Actors Guild and the Screenwriters Guild in Hollywood are on strike at the same time. Baton Rouge-based actor, Jason Bayle says viewers are already seeing the strike effects and if it drags on, popular shows could see their next seasons delayed.…:

Starting today, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has increased the daily limit for red snapper from three to four for private recreational and state-charter boat fishermen. LDWF fisheries biologist Jason Adriance says they are happy to relax the regulations:
