If approved, Entergy will be able to make upgrades and not pass the cost onto consumers.

Governor Edwards has signed legislation to mandate 15 minutes of recess for K-5 public school students. The law allows recess not to be counted toward the minimum of 360 instructional minutes required each school day. State Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley believes fear of extending the school day cut recess in schools.

Entergy has applied for federal grants to improve its power grid in Louisiana.   If secured the funds would be aimed at reducing extreme weather impacts and help speed up restoration and recovery efforts after major storm events. PSC Commissioner Devante Lewis says he wrote a letter of support for the application.

Lewis says grant recipients are expected to be announced later this year.

Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon is meeting with the press at this hour discussing legislation approved in the recently completed legislative session. Donelon says lawmakers approved more money for fund to attract more insurance providers to offer homeowners coverage…

Donelon says next month they’ll begin a grant program that will allow homeowners to receive financial assistance to fortify their roofs from strong storms.

Among the bills passed last week, was a measure to give a $500 tax break to Louisiana gun owners for purchases of safes, locks, and other gun storage devices. New Orleans Representative Mandie Landry says her legislation mirrors a law passed in Virginia.

A 28-year-old woman and her mother have been arrested for using fraudulent paperwork and birth certificate to enroll in Hahnville High School. School Administration was tipped off that the female student was in her 20’s. The mother and daughter were charged with one count each of injuring public records.

The National Security Agency (NSA) selects LSU as the first university in the country to create and pilot and cybersecurity clinic to help Louisiana small businesses. LSU Economic Development Director Greg Trahan (TRAH-Hahn) says it will be offered through the LSU Ourso College of Business, the LSU Center for Computation & Technology, the College of Engineering, and the Small Business & Development Center at LSU…:

Trahan says work will begin right away to implement the clinics and they hope to have them up and running within 12 months.

Louisiana’s largest military base has a new name. Fort Polk is now Fort Johnson. The Army base in Vernon Parish is named after World War I hero Sgt. William Henry Johnson, a Black U.S. soldier who fought with French forces against Germany. Brigadier General David Gardner says Sgt. Johnson embodies the warrior spirit.

But there’s a chance Kamara could face a suspension from the NFL this season as a result of a felony battery charge stemming from a fight at a Las Vegas casino in 2022. Kamara has plead not guilty and the trial is set for July 31st.

Receiver Rashid Shaheed is not at the minicamp. Coach Dennis Allen says Shaheed is dealing with a groin injury. In 12 games last season, Shaheed had 28 catches for 488 yards and three touchdowns.
