Ochsner Health and MD Anderson Cancer Center have partnered to create the Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center in southeast Louisiana. Medical director Dr. Brian Moore says this means cancer patients in the region will have access to cancer treatments that are among the most advanced in the country.

Moore says the protocols of how Ochsner and MD Anderson treat cancer are the same and the hallmark is their multidisciplinary approach.

The first phase of the partnership includes six facilities in the New Orleans area, Baton Rouge, and Covington. Moore says the immediate impact of the partnership is a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach and the wider availability of clinical trials for patients in Louisiana.

MD Anderson in Houston is one of only 53 comprehensive cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute.

Former Basketball Coach Will Wade-who was front and center of the nationwide recruiting scandal- currently coaching at McNeese State, received a ten-game suspension. Horne says McNeese already planned to suspend him for the first five games

Horne says the conclusion of the investigation removes a dark cloud hanging over the head of current LSU Basketball Coach Matt McMahon.

The programs will also face a fine of 0.5% of its average men’s basketball and football budgets. The three-year probation for both teams begins in September.

Denham Springs Representative Valarie Hodges says lawmakers need to come back if Edwards vetoes bills banning gender transition care for minors, affirming the use of students’ birth pronouns, and forbidding discussion with students of gender preference of sexual behavior…:

Davis says a number of lawmakers may feel the vetoed bills can easily be revisited next spring, when they will quite likely face the approval of a conservative Republican governor. Rep. Authorities have confirmed the heat-related death of 62-year-old Tina Perritt of Keithville, who was without power for an extended period. SWEPCO spokesperson Doug Warner says more than 4,000 workers have responded to the widespread outages from last Thursday’s storms.

The small village of Simsboro in Lincoln Parish is in shock after learning the Ardagh Glass Packaging Plant will close next month. The plant’s 245 employees were told Wednesday and Simsboro Mayor Sybil Smalling-Foster says news of the closure is a complete surprise.

The NCAA has placed LSU on three years probation for alleged recruiting violations involving the men’s basketball program and former head coach Will Wade. The football program is also on three years probation because of impermissible benefits given to the family of former offensive lineman Vadal Alexander. The school is also forced to vacate 37 victories that took place from 2012 to 2016.

LSU remains in the College World Series. The Tigers have to beat the Demon Deacons tonight to remain in contention. The winner of tonight’s game advances to the championship round to play Florida in a best-of-three series beginning Saturday night.

SWEPCO is working to restore power to the 16-thousand customers yet remaining in the heat and the dark. A week of record June heat plus six days without power to cool off has resulted in at least one death in northwestern Louisiana, after the severe storm system with a tornado that knocked out power to over 200-thousand customers. 62-year-old Keithville resident Tina Perritt passed away in a heat-related death. SWEPCO’s Doug Warner says the damage was extensive, with almost 800 utility poles knocked down…:

Around 16-thousand customers are still without power. SWEPCO hopes to have them reconnected soon.

A new poll shows Republican Jeff Landry and Democrat Shawn Wilson likely to be in a runoff election for Governor. UL-Monroe political science professor Joshua Stockley says Wilson will need to really boost his name recognition though…:

The coast Guard reports they have found the wreckage of the submersible lost Sunday while headed to see the remains of the Titanic; thousands of feet down. Bob Ballard found the Titanic wreck almost 40 years ago. Chris Drew co-authored Ballard’s biography. Drew says Ballard felt deep undersea travel is inherently dangerous…:

We are anticipating one heck of a baseball game tonight between LSU and Wake Forest. The Tigers defeated the Demon Deacons five to two last night to set up this loser goes home contest. So could we see LSU’s ace Paul Skenes on the mound tonight on four days rest? Coach Jay Johnson said after last night’s game, we’ll have to wait and see…

And Wake Forest could also throw its top pitcher, Rhett Lowder. He’s 15 and 0 with a 1.99 ERA and he’s struck out 137 hitters in 113 innings. First pitch tonight is at 6 PM and the winner will play Florida in a best out of three championship series starting Saturday.

Wade, who is preparing for his first season as the head coach at McNeese, has also been suspended 10 games and put on recruiting restrictions for the next two years. The NCAA says it took into account LSU’s self-imposed penalties including a postseason ban in football in 2020 when handing down this ruling.

Tonight is the NBA draft, the Pelicans have the 14th pick in the first round. New Orleans is looking for a shooter or another big man. There are reports they are shopping Zion Williamson in the hopes of getting a top three pick.

The U.S. Coast Guard says wreckage from the missing submersible that was taking five people to the sunken site of the Titanic has been found. The pilot and four other crewmembers are believed to be dead according to the expedition company. LSU Professor Christopher Drew, Co-author of the Robert Ballard Memoir – the explorer who found the Titanic, says the lack of proper equipment made it difficult to find the vessel.

The submersible named Titan left Sunday with only 96 hours of oxygen and lost contact about an hour and 45 minutes into the dive. The vessel free falls one hundred feet a minute taking about an hour and a half to two hours to get to the sea floor. Oceangate says the submersible may have imploded. Drew says it’s possible that the underway expedition went out of control mid-water

Robert Ballard and his team discovered the wreck of the Titanic in 1985 in the North Atlantic. It lies at a depth of 12,500 feet off the coast of Newfoundland. Drew hopes this unfortunate tragedy will convince other thrill seekers not to try and visit the site…
