Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon issued $2 million fines totaling $2 million to a Texas law firm for engaging in insurance fraud. He says the scheme by McClenny, Mosely, and Associates is one of the most flagrant cases he’s ever seen.

McClenny, Mosely, and Associates admitted to misrepresenting 856 claims of Louisiana policyholders and were fined $500,000 each, the maximum allowed under current law.

Low crawfish sales are affecting producers across Crawfish Capital this season. Chairman of Louisiana Crawfish Promotion and Research Board, David Savoy says this is one of the worst seasons for crawfish producers.

Louisiana crawfish producers are only getting $1.25 to $1.35 a pound for their crops. Crawfish season ends in July.

West Baton Rouge Deputies arrested four Texas teenagers in Port Allen after stealing a vehicle from Texas this morning.  Spokesperson, Sgt. Landon Groger says deputies attempted to stop the vehicle on Lobdell Highway…

Alabama Baseball Coach Brad Bohannon was fired Thursday morning following reports of suspicious betting activity before last Friday’s game against LSU that suspended sports betting on Alabama baseball in Ohio, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The University released a statement saying Bohannon violated University standards duties and responsibilities, but Tiger Rag Editor Todd Horne said promise of further investigation makes him believe there’s a connection to the gambling.

LSU will continue the final month of the season with the first game of a three-game SEC series in Auburn tomorrow night. With three conference series left in the regular season, the Tigers will hope to close out strong and secure the top seeds in the NCAA and SEC tournaments. LSU is currently half a game behind Vanderbilt for the top spot in the SEC due to the cancellation of game 3 of the South Carolina series in early April. The Tigers have been the consensus number one ranked team in the country all season and are favorites to win the College World Series, but former LSU Baseball star and SEC Network analyst Todd Walker says it’s baseball, and the best team doesn’t always win the national championship…

The joyride of four children that began in Smith County, Texas ended around 8:30 this morning in Port Allen. West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, Sgt. Landon Groger says they received a call from the car owner, who was tracking the vehicle with their GPS. Deputies located the car, and the 15-year-old driver gave a short pursuit. The ages of the three passengers are 12, 13, and 14.

Louisiana crawfish producers are only getting $1.25 to $1.35 a pound for their crops. Savoy says restaurants are earning $2.14 more per pound for boiled crawfish than producers are for live crawfish.

Savoy says if the remainder of the season remains at this level, producers of the red crustaceans will not see favorable profits.

Savoy encourages consumers to support and buy from local farmers and that will increase the state’s crawfish industry.

The three passengers are 12, 13, and 14. Groger says no one was injured.

And while he admits a 300-mile trip is quite a trek considering the driver and passengers are all juveniles, Groger says he’s not necessarily taken aback.

Bossier City authorities credit a hotel manger for helping them apprehend a man who was on a killing spree. Police spokesperson Louis Johnson says 50-year-old Cortrell Burks fled to a nearby hotel after fatally shooting two people during an armed robbery Tuesday morning at a gas station off of I-20…

Burks is also charged in the stabbing death of a 40-year-old woman in Birmingham, Alabama.

The FDA approves the world’s first RSV vaccine. The vaccine lowers respiratory illness in adults 60 and older. LSU Health New Orleans Infectious Disease Expert Dr. Fred Lopez says the virus can be life-threatening for those with underlying medical conditions in that age group. He says the vaccine looks promising to lower the risk of symptomatic illness.

The 24th ranked U-L Lafayette softball team topped Louisiana Tech eight to one. The Cajuns are now 40-13 and they’ve reached the 40-win mark for the 24th consecutive completed season. U-L Lafayette begins its last Sun Belt Conference Series tonight against ULM.

For the first time since 2001, the Grambling softball team has won 30 games in a year as they defeated Alcorn State six to one last night.

LSU women’s basketball star Angel Reese said during an appearance on the Jennifer Hudson Show that she now has security detail. Reese says she appreciates the love she’s receiving from the fans since winning a national title, but it’s so intense she needs security to attend class or go to the grocery store.

One day after one House committee approved a pay raise for state lawmakers that would more than double their annual salary, another House committee rejected a proposal to increase the minimum wage in Louisiana from $7.25 to ten dollars an hour. Opponents say a higher minimum wage would mean less jobs for low-earning workers.

50-year-old Cortrell Burks is in custody after a multi-state shooting spree. He’s accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend in Alabama Sunday and on Tuesday in Bossier City, two people were killed at a gas station and wounding others. Bossier City police chief Daniel Haugen says it appears Burks was traveling on I-20 when he stopped in Bossier City.
