Tre Morgan supplied the offense as he hit a two run homer in the first inning and then delivered an RBI single in the seventh inning. Game two of the series is tonight at 8 PM.

The Cajuns doubled up ULM eight to four as Julian Brock had four hits and Jackson Nezuh allowed three earned runs in seven innings to get the win.

Louisiana Tech had a season high 21 hits and hit five home runs and the Bulldogs blasted UAB 16 to 3 to improve to 12 and 10 in Conference USA.

LSU women’s hoops has added another all-American to its roster as forward Aneesah Morrow has announced her decision to transfer to LSU after putting up big numbers at DePaul. The Chicago native averaged 25 points and 12 rebounds a game last season. She will join up with Angel Reese, who also averaged a double-double in scoring and rebounding last night. Morrow was rated as the second best player in the transfer portal and LSU also signed the top player in the transfer portal Hailey Van Lith from Louisville.

Back to baseball…Nicholls knocked off Southeastern Louisiana 13 to seven. Leadoff hitter Parker Coddou had four hits, Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi over Northwestern State eleven to eight, McNeese defeated Lamar six to four, UNO outscored Houston Christian nine to seven and Grambling defeated Texas Southern ten to eight to strengthen its lead on first place in the SWAC West Division.

The World Health Organization says COVID-19 is no longer a global health emergency, which marks a historic end to the pandemic. But LSU Health New Orleans Infectious Disease specialist, Dr. Fred Lopez says those who are 65 and older or immunocompromised they should remain diligent about their COVID vaccines.

New Iberia Police are investigating a shooting incident that left a 5-year old injured at a Raceway on LA-14 Thursday morning. Sergeant Daesh Hughes says officers received a call of a child shot in a vehicle.

A shooting last night in New Iberia leaves a little girl with a gunshot injury. NIPD’s Sgt. Daesha Hughes says it happened at a Raceway gas and convenience store, when a mom left her 4 kids in the car while she ran inside for a minute. While she was gone, one of the kids found a gun in the car and somehow shot his 5-year-old sister in the leg. Hughes says never leave your kids unattended in the car..:

He has a Guinness World Record for most scholarships offered in U.S. history and now New Orleans high school senior Maliq Barnes says he’s decided to accept Cornell University’s offer. He graduates in just weeks and says, once at Cornell, he’ll pursue dual degrees in computer science and criminal justice. His advice to fellow teens? “Put your best foot forward”…:

Police in Baton Rouge arrest a convenience store clerk who allegedly faked a robbery this week. BRPD says 36-year-old Ishawna West called police to report the robbery, but holes in her story turned up immediately.  Police say she emptied the store safe of about $7500. West was booked on theft, obstruction of justice and injuring public records.

New Orleans high school senior Dennis “Maliq” Barnes, who set a record of receiving ten-million dollars in scholarship money, announced today he will attend Cornell University this fall. The 16-year-old scholar set a Guinness World Record for the highest amount of scholarships offered in U.S. history. Currently dual-enrolled in high school and at Southern University New Orleans, he says selecting Cornell was easy..:

He graduates high school in three weeks, with a 4.98 GPA.

 

Police in Shreveport are searching for the person or persons who shot and seriously wounded a 6-year-old girl Thursday night. Police say the child was playing in her front yard when multiple people began shooting at one another. She caught a stray bullet. She suffered life-threatening injury. An update on the fire this morning at Alexandria’s historic Hotel Bentley. KALB TV reports three people were hurt in that fire; two construction workers and a fire investigator. All are expected to be OK. Damage was concentrated to one lower area that was under renovation.

Investigators say the shooting happened at the gas station after the mother left her four kids in the car while she went inside. Hughes says one of the kids located the gun and shot the sibling in the leg.

Raceway employees helped care for the child until the police arrived. Hughes encourages everyone to never leave children unattended even if it’s a quick run into the store.

He already has a head start in his college career since he has dually enrolled in Southern University of New Orleans earning college credits while working towards his high school diploma. Barnes says his decision to select Cornell was easy.

Barnes plans to pursue a dual degree in computer science and criminal justice. He encourages teens to put their best foot forward.

A fire broke out at The Hotel Bentley in Alexandria this morning. The fire was extinguished by 10 am. According to KALB-TV the fire was on the lower-level exterior roof elevation of the hotel. It was in the midst of being replaced. The building was evacuated, and a contractor receive burns from the blaze.
