State Police has released more information on a fatal officer involved shooting that took place on April ninth outside of the La Bamba nightclub in Lafayette. Trooper Thomas Gossen says an officer working security detailed shot at 28-year-old Deiondre Solomon after he fired his gun at someone in the parking lot. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

Authorities have identified skeletal remains found near Slidell in January 1989 as Paula Boudreaux, a 22-year-old woman woman who disappeared from Golden Meadow in August of 1986. Lafourche Sheriff Craig Webre says the 33-year-old case at least gives Boudreaux’s family some closure…

With help from the LSU FACES lab and DNA technology authorities have identified human remains – found near Slidell by a hunter back in 1989 – as a Lafourche Parish woman, Paula Boudreaux, who vanished in 1986. Lafourche Sheriff Craig Webre says what was a missing persons case is now much more…:

The head of LDWF quit after he was implicated in a kickback scandal. Edwards appointed Montoucet to the post when he took office in 2016. He says he’s known Montoucet for years, and he hasn’t been charged with any crime…:

Legislation to terminate the parental rights of the violator if a child is conceived as a result of sexual assault is before the legislature. Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response (STAR) President Morgan Lamandre recounted a case in which a judge believed it was in the best interest of the child to have two parents, despite how they were conceived.

House Bill 298 would also deny the perpetrator visitation rights and any other contact with the child.

And if a mother wants to place her child for adoption, Lamandre says this bill would also terminate the perpetrator’s rights to intervene in the adoption process.

Solicitor General Liz Murrell says she assisted in writing the legislation to better clarify parental rights and to protect women who’ve chosen to either keep or place the child for adoption that was conceived from a violent act.

The bill advanced from House Civil Law and Procedure without any opposition and is headed to the House floor.

Boudreaux was 22 years old when she disappeared from Golden Meadow in August of ’86. Fast forward three decades, when new and better facial reconstruction technology yielded an image of the victim that resembled photos of Boudreaux. Family members provided DNA base samples that told investigators the remains were Boudreaux’s. Webre says they will try their best to solve her apparent murder…:

Because Boudreaux’s remains were found in a wooded area 100 miles from where she disappeared, law enforcement thinks foul play is very likely. In the years since she vanished, her son has grown to adulthood and both her parents have passed away. Sheriff Webre says this break in the 33-year-old case at least gives Boudreaux’s remaining family some closure…:

Edna Karr Special Teams Coordinator Norman Randall says the series will show Head Football Coach Brice Brown, the staff, and players navigate football and life in New Orleans

Edna Karr – a predominantly Black high school in Algiers – football team is one of the nation’s best-producing top athletes and earning four state championships in the last five years. Randall says the series will show triumphs and tragedies and how the kids manage life.

Randall believes Director Jackson Fager and Executive Producer Raina Kelley were able to guide the documentary in a way that will inspire and display real-life depictions of a community fighting to save the youth.

On Thursday legislation to provide testing for dyslexia for K through third grade will be heard in House Education. Gretna Representative Joe Marino’s bill would require every child in those grades to be screened at least once for dyslexia. The goal of the bill is to catch and intervene earlier in a child’s education versus later.

It was a big time win last night for the Ragin Cajuns baseball team as they defeated top ranked LSU eight to five at Alex Box Stadium. Heath Hood and Conor Higgs homered for U-L Lafayette and Right-hander David Christie threw a career-high six innings in relief to earn the win…..

Meanwhile, LSU did not play well as they committed a couple of errors in the field, outfielders lost a couple of balls in the twilight and the Tigers pitchers walked six more hitters.

Louisiana Tech won its fourth straight as the Bulldogs knocked off 23rd ranked Southern Miss three to one. Solid pitching from Reed Smith, who allowed one earned in five innings.

Also last night, Southeastern clobbered Jackson State 14 to 4, Nicholls State crushed Mississippi Valley State 12 to three and Tulane topped UNO eight to six.

Tonight ULM is at Little Rock and Grambling hosts UIW.

New LSU special teams coordinator John Jancek met with the media as the Tigers get ready for their spring game this Saturday. Jancek is a former defensive coordinator at Georgia and Tennessee and this is his first stint as a special teams coordinator. Jancek says during his three decades of coaching experience, he’s always had a role in special teams…

A related story here. Just yesterday, at Jena High School, a student passed away after going into cardiac arrest in class. Life saving measures were tried, but to no avail. The student’s name has not yet been released. An autopsy is scheduled. Meanwhile, Jena High has postponed scheduled LEAP testing for two weeks.

Camp Beauregard will be officially renamed as the Louisiana National Guard Training Center in Pineville later this year. Lt. Col Noel Collins says through the guidance of the National Defense Authorization Act the training installation was given a new moniker…:

The Republican’s bill requires proof of paternity. Frieman says the bill was crafted out of was drafted out of fundamental fairness because it’s not right that the mother has to bear the expenses and the father gets off scot-free before the child is even born.

Frieman says post-birth expenses fall under child-support laws. Examples of reimbursable expenses under this bill would be insurance co-pays and over-the-counter prenatal vitamins.

Attorney General Jeff Landry launched the first 30-second television ad of his gubernatorial campaign today addressing one of the state’s top issues – crime. ULM Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says Landry’s message is spot on for voters.

Cross says Louisiana is home to three of the top ten most dangerous cities in America and leads the nation with 564 violent crimes per hundred thousand. And although one would think the governor could do little to fight crime, the governor is very powerful.

This will be a multi-market ad that will begin in Baton Rouge but expects to spread across the state. Cross says statewide advertisement during an election year is a hefty expense.
