Baton Rouge Police say they have arrested a Person Of Interest in the mysterious death of Georgia businessman Nathan Millard last month. BRPD Sgt. L’Jean McNeely says 45-year-old Derrick Perkins was with Millard the night he died, and patrolling officers located him today, in the overnight hours…:

Louisiana’s longest-serving Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon announces he’s not running for re-election. Donelon has served as the state’s insurance commissioner since 2006, but over the last year the number of insurance companies willing to write private property insurance has declined and that’s where his focus needs to be.

Because the cost of insulin has risen from $20 a vial to anywhere between $300 and $700 since the 90s, Attorney General Jeff Landry is taking on manufacturers and pharmacy benefit managers.

Sanofi-Aventis, (so-noff-ee) Novo Nordisk, and several Pharmacy Benefit Managers are named in the suit. Just this morning Novo Nordisk announced they are lowering the cost of their insulin pens and vials by up to 75% beginning January 1st and last month Lilly said they are capping the cost of a vial of insulin at $35 dollars.

House majority leader and Congressman Steve Scalise will introduce the Lower Energy Costs Act next week.  Scalise says the average family is paying over 40 percent more for gas and the bill would have to be passed by the President.

According to data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is at 3.5% percentage points and remains the lowest in history.  Mark Jones with the Louisiana Workforce Commission says the employment rate has declined for 23 consecutive months over the year.

A recent study by Tulane University shows a rise in alcohol and marijuana use among college students. Data from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health of 56 thousand full-time college students ages 18 to 25 from 2006 to 2019 was used. Assistant professor of social work Audrey Hai (pronounced high) says the sharp increase between 2018 to 2019 for Black students is likely attributed to a number of factors including widespread attention to racism and police brutality.

The overall increase for simultaneous use among all races and ethnicities of college students from the same time period increased from 8.13 % to 8.44%.

PAR’s President, Steven Procopio says one out of every 70 jobs is related to the seafood industry and the state produces about 130 million pounds of crawfish annually.

The Saints have also reworked the contracts of Cam Jordan, Alvin Kamara, and Marcus Lattimore to get underneath the salary cap.

Three former defensive linemen for the Black and Gold have found new homes. David Onyemata has reportedly signed a three-year deal with Atlanta. Shy Tuttle has reportedly inked a three year contract with Carolina. And the Vikings have reportedly agreed to a one-year deal worth 13-million dollars with Marcus Davenport. District 1 Congressman and House majority leader Steve Scalise says the Lower Energy Costs Act can help families struggling to make ends meet and put Americans back to work producing energy…but only if the President will support it. Over  40-percent of inflation in America is energy-related. Oil & gas drive the costs of everything. Scalise says H.R. 1, which is called the Lower Energy Costs Act, will benefit consumers and taxpayers by reinvigorating the American energy industry…:

The bill would take an “all of the above” approach to energy; promoting renewable sources, but also clearing the way for U.S. oil & gas exploration to ramp back up. It would open up more offshore energy leasing, and remove hurdles in acquiring exploration permits. Scalise says the White House has slowed that process to a crawl, which curtails domestic energy production…:
