Get ready for some colder weather. A freeze watch is in effect from late tomorrow night through Wednesday morning for northeast Louisiana and a portion of central Louisiana. Near to below freezing temperatures are also possible for Tangipahoa, St. Tammany and Washington parishes Wednesday morning.

The Livingston Parish Council has voted against a proposal to store greenhouse gases beneath Lake Maurepas. Air Products, which is based in East Baton Rouge Parish, is looking to pump carbon dioxide into the ground under Lake Maurepas, which is owned by the state. Councilman Randy Delattte says they have concerns about this proposal…

Delatte says he is worried about serious damage to Lake Maurepas if the well or any pipelines spring a leak.

It’s been about a month since the murder of LSU student Allie Rice, who was gunned down in the overnight hours as she waited for a train to cross an intersection. Her boss at the Shed barbeque restaurant in Baton Rouge, Chez Ciccone, says they’ve heard very little from the police chief…

Albright says it’s even possible the effects of Ian will drive more Louisianans to the state-run insurer of last resort, Louisiana Citizens…

What a homecoming for Ja’Marr Chase yesterday in the Superdome. The former Rummel Raider and LSU Tiger caught two touchdown passes from Joe Burrow as the Bengals rallied to beat the Saints 30-26. New Orleans is now a disappointing two and four on the season.

The Saints were in position to get a big win at home over the Bengals on Sunday, but Louisiana legends Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase broke the hearts of Who Dat Nation. New Orleans led by nine points late in the third quarter, but Burrow and Chase connected on two touchdown passes as Cincinnati rallied for a 30-26 win in New Orleans. Saints Coach Dennis Allen says settling for just two field goals in the second half hurt…

The Saints had five trips in the red zone, but only scored one touchdown, while the Bengals scored TDs on their three trips to the red zone. New Orleans is now 2-and-4 and will visit the Cardinals this Thursday. Arizona is also 2-and-4.

The LSU offense finally had its break out performance offensively in the Tigers 45-35 win over the Florida Gators in Gainesville. Quarterback Jayden Daniels accounted for six touchdowns, three rushing, and three throwing as he had 349 passing yards. Coach Brian Kelly says he liked that Daniels was aggressive…

Daniels big game also resulted in a big game for preseason All-American receiver Kayshon Boutte, who caught six passes for 115 yards.

LSU will host seventh ranked Ole Miss this Saturday.

Tulane is ranked 25th in the A-P and Coaches polls. It’s the first time the Green Wave have been ranked since 1998 when they went 12-0.

Northwestern State is 3-0 in the Southland play for the first time since 2002 as the Demons defeated Houston Christian 37-10.

Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon wants to create an incentive fund to attract new property insurers to the state, so homeowners may leave the more-costly Louisiana Citizens rates. This worked with some success after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. Albright says it’s a good plan, but…:

The Livingston Parish Council is saying “not so fast” to a proposal—backed by Governor John Bel Edwards—to inject captured greenhouse gases deep beneath Lake Maurepas. The lake is part of councilman Randy Delatte’s district and he’s concerned.

The company Air Products wants to store carbon dioxide under the lake instead of releasing it into the atmosphere. The company is building a new clean hydrogen energy complex in Ascension Parish, next door to Livingston. The Livingston Council has passed a moratorium on injection wells. Delatte says he feels like their concerns are being ignored.

Delatte says he is also worried about serious damage to Lake Maurepas if the well or any pipelines leading to it springs a leak.

The process of capturing and injecting greenhouse gases is becoming more popular. Last week Exxon Mobil and other companies announced a partnership to do the same thing—capturing gases from an ammonia plant—and injecting them deep beneath Vermillion Parish.

Diamond Jack’s has been closed since early 2020 amid the impacts of the pandemic on business. Its owner, Peninsula Pacific, sought to move its license to St. Tammany Parish for a massive casino resort complex, but local voters rejected it, and so the company put the license on the market. Johns says Mississippi-based Foundation Gaming wants to invest $200-million in a total revamp of the Bossier City complex. He says all is proceeding well…:

If the license transfer is approved, Foundation can continue plans for the construction and re-opening of the casino. Johns says he feels the deal with be approved and move forward, but it will still be some time before the new owners are ready to open their doors…:

Johns says there will be a good many decent-paying jobs available when the casino is ready to reopen under new ownership.

The father of LSU student Allie Rice, who was gunned down while stopped for a train in Baton Rouge on September 16th, says it’s all been a blur as he continues to grapple with his emotions over the loss of his 21-year-old daughter. Paul Rice was a guest on Jim Engster’s Talk Louisiana Friday, four weeks to the day of her murder.

Allie Rice’s employer and close friend of Paul Rice, Chez Ciccone, also appeared on the program and said Allie’s car had gunshots on both sides of the vehicle. Ciccone voiced his frustration with the investigation and says Baton Rouge Police Chief Murphy Paul hasn’t followed up with the family after their last meeting.

A reward of $50 thousand is being offered for the arrest and conviction of those responsible for her death. Paul Rice says they want to keep Allie’s murder at the forefront of the media so justice will be served.

The LSU offense finally had its breakout performance offensively in the Tigers 45-35 win over the Florida Gators in Gainesville. Quarterback Jayden Daniels accounted for six touchdowns, three rushing, and three throwing as he had 349 passing yards. Coach Brian Kelly says he liked that Daniels was aggressive…

Big day of college football is on tap across Louisiana. the LSU Tigers are in the Swamp to face the Florida Gators. Louisiana Tech travels to North Texas, ULM is at South Alabama. Grambling plays its first home game of the season as the Tigers host Florida A-and-M. Southern hosts Alcorn State.

Three people were killed in Lake Charles Thursday afternoon and State Police are also investigating the officer-involved shooting of the incident. Trooper Derek Senegal says Lake Charles PD reportedly fired shots at a naked man who then retreated into the house. A SWAT team deployed a robot into the house and Senegal says that’s when they discovered the naked man whom police shot deceased in the home.

They believe the other two victims had been deceased for days.

Animal shelters in Louisiana and across the country continue to be overwhelmed with animals.  Humane Society of Louisiana Director Jeff Dorson says in their 34-year history they’ve never experienced such an influx of abandoned animals and because Louisiana has one of the lowest spay and neuter rates in the country it’s only making the problem worse.

He urges you to adopt a pet if you can or to make a donation to assist shelters with the influx.

Louisiana State Police will conduct a new cadet training class in February, but if you want to become a trooper, the deadline to apply is Monday. Trooper Kate Stegall says LSP is big enough to offer interesting careers to folks with a wide variety of skills and interests.

It will be the third straight game Dalton has started as Jameis Winston continues to recover from back and ankle injuries. Dalton led the Saints to a win over Seattle last Sunday….

It’s not happy news for many Mardi Gras fans and krewe members in New Orleans: shortened parade routes will make a return for 2023. After a two year hiatus due to the pandemic, parades last year were abbreviated on pretty short notice. Mardi Gras historian Arthur Hardy says many businesses lost money, because they were no longer on or near the parade route…:

The City says the shortage of police is why the routes are shorter again next year. Hardy says he’s hopeful things will be back to tradition by 2024.

The chancellor of LSU-Shreveport says he is stepping down. Larry Clark made the announcement Friday morning. He’s been a staff and faculty member since the 1980’s and has served as chancellor since 2014. Clark’s last day will be June 30th of next year.

 

Two Baton Rouge teens accused of plotting the murder of one’s mother will be held without bond. The 16-year-old girls allegedly convinced a 16-year-old boy to pull the trigger. 33-year-old Markeshia Stone was shot to death Wednesday. A judge denied them bail Friday morning.

An officer involved shooting in Lake Charles has left one man dead, but also turned up two more victims. State Police Trooper Derek Senegal says Lake Charles PD reportedly fired shots at a naked man who fired on them, then retreated into the house. The Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office makes an arrest for a threat of violence made against Mangham High School yesterday. A 15-year-old was taken into custody after making the post on social media and charged with Terrorizing. The boy says he was only joking. He’s likely not laughing now.
