Troopers are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that happened Sunday in Lafourche Parish. Trooper Ross Brennan says 39-year-old Tricia Vicknair of Schriever was killed in the crash and investigators say it happened when she was driving south along LA 20 while in a curve.

Rookie left tackle Trevor Penning played in his first NFL game on Saturday. He played well in the first half, but struggled more in the second half, allowing a sack. LSU received another major commitment over the weekend as Zachary’s Kylin Jackson announced his verbal pledge. The four-star safety chose LSU over Texas A-and-M. He’s six-foot-two, 195 pounds and is considered one of the ten best safeties in the nation.

There are reports out of Monroe that ULM will announce the resignation of athletics director Scott McDonald. He’s led the Warhawk athletics program for the last three seasons. ULM president Doctor Ron Berry reportedly received McDonald’s resignation letter on Friday.

State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash in Lafourche Parish Sunday afternoon. Trooper Ross Brennan says 39-year-old Tricia Vicknair, of Schriever, crossed the center line of state Highway 20 and ran head-on into an oncoming vehicle. He says they are still unsure why Vicknair went into the opposite lane…:

A Lafayette Police officer is in critical condition today, after he was hit by an impaired driver and dragged under the vehicle. LPD spokesperson Sgt. Robin Green says it happened early Sunday morning. The LPD cop tried to stop 24-year-old Jaylion Chavis, of Lake Charles, for erratic driving. He fled, but stopped short at a police roadblock, threw the vehicle in reverse and backed over the officer, then dragged him at least 100 feet. That, of course spurred action from other officers present…:

The St. Tammany Parish coroner confirms two recent overdose deaths were the result of taking “look-alike” pills containing 100 percent fentanyl, which can kill with just one pill…:

State Police are investigating a fatal crash in Allen Parish early Sunday morning. Troopers say 36-year-old Edwin McDaniel’s pickup went off the roadway in a curve & rolled over several times. He was partially ejected from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene. A toxicology sample was taken to determine is he may have been impaired.

Robin Green says it happened just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning, near the city’s entertainment district. Green says the suspect fled the initial stop for reckless driving, but drove into a police blockade…:

Devante Lewis with the Louisiana Budget Project fears since conservatives in Louisiana have outlawed abortion that the right to contraception could also be lost. He says if the legislature is truly pro-life they have to be willing to raise the minimum wage, ensure affordable housing and protect existing social safety nets like DCFS, SNAP, and Medicaid.

A Lake Charles man was arrested Sunday morning after reportedly running over a police officer and dragging him approximately 100 feet. The officer was hospitalized for his injuries. This happened during a reckless driving traffic stop. 24-year-old Jaylon Chavis, (cha-VIS) of Lake Charles, is charged with reckless driving, resisting an officer and attempted murder.

Louisiana’s on-again-off-again abortion ban law is on again, and this time it may stick after the state supreme court rejected to hear an appeal. Loyola University law professor Dane Ciolino while some feel the lack of exceptions for rape and incest are too stringent, he says there’s a proper process for getting that done…:

St. Tammany Parish Coroner Dr. Charles Preston is very concerned with escalating fentanyl overdose deaths. Last month 15-year-old died from a fentanyl overdose. Two people have since been arrested in connection and charged with murder. Dr. Preston says the fentanyl issues are growing like a weed…:

Things were much different this time six years ago as many residents’ homes and businesses flooded. Baton Rouge Mayor Sharon Broome was in the midst of campaigning for her first mayoral term. After living in what was designated as a no flood zone since 1999, Broome says like many others she was in shock when she left her house that Saturday.

It wasn’t until November 2017 that she was able to live in her home again. She says the city continues to work on drainage issues.

The coroner in St. Tammany Parish is very concerned with escalating fentanyl overdose deaths; especially because people may not even know that is what they are taking. Dr. Charles Preston says pills bought and sold on the street may look like semi-harmless pain relievers, but many contain highly dangerous fentanyl.  Preston confirms that man died from an overdose of fentanyl and, though the pill he took appeared to be Percocet, it was 100-percent illegally made fentanyl….:

The state Supreme Court rejected an appeal of the state’s abortion ban trigger law; meaning abortion clinics in Louisiana are closed. Many objections to the law were for its lacking exceptions for cases of rape or incest. Loyola University law Professor Dane Ciolino says the High Court’s judgement sends a clear message…:

He says it’s likely one or more lawmakers will seek to amend the law next spring, when the legislature re-convenes.
