The mother of Ronald Greene, the Black motorist who was killed while in the custody of the Louisiana State Police, held a press conference today to address last week’s comments by the Governor and more. Here’s David Grubb.

Alliance Compressors is expanding its Natchitoches facility with a $45-million investment. Chairman of Alliance Compressors, Brent Schroder says the investment allows them to add a third assembly line to the plant, which will create 78 direct new jobs with an average annual salary of $47,000.

Schroder says due to the increasing demand from partners, Emerson, Trane Technologies, and Lennox Industries they need to add to their 400,000 square-foot facility.

The expansion is expected to increase efficiency and productivity by 30-percent.

Schroder says the anticipated direct jobs include hiring approximately 35 employers per shift for the plant in January and then adding a second shift once that’s up and running as the market demands.

A man wanted for murder was fatally shot during a shoot-out with New Orleans Police officers in Central City this morning. NOPD Chief Deputy Superintendent Christopher Goodly says officers and U-S Marshals were serving a “high-risk” warrant on a subject at an apartment complex. Goodly says the subject was armed with a rifle

Goodly identifies the deceased individual as a 22-year-old male, who was wanted for the murder of a 35-year-old male and attempted murder of another person who was injured in a car…

It’s been reported the suspect shot at officers from the upper floors of the apartment complex, but Goodly could not provide details on who fired the first shots…

Governor John Bel Edwards says he made no attempt to impede or interfere with any investigation into Greene’s death. He says any allegation to the contrary is not true.

Schexnayder says the Legislature’s investigation will review the handling of the Greene incident on all levels. He says the truth must come out and no cover-up will be tolerated. Magee hopes to bring some closure to Greene’s family…

Ms. Hardin says that fault lies not only with the State Police, but with Governor Edwards, and prosecutors; and that their inaction and lack of concern has angered her and her family as they seek justice for her son.

She restated her claim that Governor Edwards allowed Greene’s killing to be characterized as an accident, knowing he was killed by troopers. Hardin says she will not rest until all responsible are held accountable for their roles in the death of her son.

Governor Edwards issued a statement in regard to the committee, saying he welcomes any and all legislative oversight and hopes it will be a productive nonpartisan discussion on how to continue ongoing reforms at State Police, so what happened the night of Greene’s death will never happen again.

More than a million people suffer burns annually and half go to an ER or are treated at a burn care center. LSU Health New Orleans professor of surgery Dr. Jeffrey Carter has been working on a more advanced way to assist burn victims with a type of spray-on-skin and speed up recovery.

Guards CJ McCollum and Tony Snell will make their debuts for the Pelicans against the Heat tonight. Forward Larry Nance Jr. is undergoing knee surgery and will be out 4-6 weeks. All three should help as the Pels make a push for their first playoff berth in four years. The Pels have won 4 in a row and Coach Willie Green says the team isn’t where they want to be, but he’s proud of their progress over the last 40 games.

Attorneys for Saints running back Alvin Kamara have begun their own investigation into the Las Vegas brawl that led to the Pro Bowler’s arrest last Sunday. Lawyer Drew Findling says the allegations made against Kamara don’t not match up with the player’s conduct throughout his career. Kamara was charged with suspicion of battery resulting in substantial bodily harm. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison with a fine of $10,000.

There’s a big women’s basketball showdown at the P-MAC tonight as the 14th-ranked LSU Tigers host number 17 Georgia. After dropping a pair of conference games, the Tigers have bounced back with wins against Kentucky and Ole Miss. LSU won the first matchup between the two, 68-62, back on December 30. Khayla Pointer led the Tigers that night with 21 points and played all 40 minutes, and Faustine Aifuwa scored 17 with nine rebounds.

Former SEC Player of the Year Sylvia Fowles will be honored during the game. During her career she, along with Seimone Augustus, led the Tigers to two Final Fours. She averaged 15.5 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks over her career.

The shakeup on the Saints coaching staff continues as Dennis Allen relieved strength and conditioning coach Dan Dalrymple and offensive line coach Brendan Nugent of their duties Wednesday, along with offensive analyst Jim Chaney. Dalrymple had been with the Saints since 2006. Former Saints offensive coordinator Doug Marron is expected to replace Nugent. And Allen interviewed Lions assistant Aubrey Pleasant for the defensive coordinator position. Pleasant met with the Vikings earlier this week.

Covington Senator Patrick McMath is proposing bills to protect citizens from discrimination based on their COVID vaccination status. One bill allows those who may be immune to not have to prove they’ve been vaccinated.

More details about the law firm involved with redistricting maps before the Louisiana legislature. Republicans, House Speaker Clay Schexnayder, and Senate President Page Cortez reportedly hired the firm of BakerHostetler in December. It’s unclear how many lawmakers knew of the relationship and the firm will be paid $10,000 a month for advice and $60,000 monthly should litigation ensue.

At a time when the nation continues to struggle with its history with race, U-S Congressman Troy Carter asks Louisiana’s youth to look to the future.

A St. Tammany Parish state Senator proposes two bills to protect citizens from discrimination based upon their COVID vaccination status. Senator Patrick McMath, of Covington, says his Senate Bill 1, is a proposed Constitutional Amendment; adding vaccine status to the list of things one cannot be discriminated against…:

LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine professor Doctor Jeffrey Carter has helped develop a spray-on skin that lowers the mortality rates from burns. Carter says they use a small portion of a person’s healthy skin to make a spray that can quickly create new skin. He says the spray-on skin has cut recovery times and hospital stays and there’s an added benefit…

At the redistricting session, the House Governmental Affairs Committee approved a redistricting plan for the Louisiana House. It moves a district from the Natchitoches area to New Orleans. The full House could debate a new Congressional District map today. The Senate has already approved its version which has just one majority-minority district.

New Saints Coach Dennis Allen is already making changes with his coaching staff. Allen is reportedly bringing back Doug Marrone to coach the offensive line. Marrone is a former head coach for Jacksonville and Buffalo and was Sean Payton’s first offensive coordinator in New Orleans. Marrone will replace o-line coach Brendan Nugent and Allen is also reportedly letting strength and conditioning coach Dan Dalrymple go.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says they knew Las Vegas Police were looking to talk with running back Alvin Kamara prior to Sunday’s Pro Bowl game, but they still allowed Kamara to play. After the game, Kamara was arrested on a battery charge after he allegedly punched another person eight times at a nightclub on Las Vegas Boulevard. Saints Coach Dennis Allen says they are still gathering information.

Tonight we’ll find out if former Saints linebacker Sam Mills will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The newly acquired CJ McCollum should be on the court tonight when the Pelicans host the Miami Heat to bolster what has been one of the worst backcourts in the NBA this season. McCollum brings more than 20 points per game and adds outside shooting, but Coach Willie Green is also excited about his intangibles.
