Oak Grove Mayor Adam Holland is hopeful the town will be awarded a 10-million-dollar grant to improve the town’s water system. Holland says he’s aware the of the dire need for repairs and ongoing discoloration. Since he took office in 2014 there have been several repairs but he’s hoping for more upgrades and says the water system’s pH and bacteria levels meet current health standards.

A description of the suspect’s vehicle and surveillance footage helped them find the plates on the car and thus his identity.

A man is dead and three other men, along with a 14-year-old are hospitalized after an ambush-style shooting Tuesday night in front of a grocery store in St. Charles Parish. Sheriff Greg Champagne says it happened in Killona and they’ve been working with authorities in St. James and St. Johns parishes who have encountered similar types of criminal activity.

A former prosecutor in Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry’s office has filed a lawsuit against his former employer claiming a suspect in a child porn investigation received preferential treatment because he was politically connected. Matthew Derbes resigned in April and filed the lawsuit last week. Landry denies they gave the suspect any special treatment and blames the COVID pandemic on not arresting him sooner.

The Louisiana Memorial Park is part of a statewide volunteer project by members of the state chapters of the American Rose Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Garden Club Federation.

The dedication will take place at 11 am on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. Strickland says even if you aren’t able to attend a Veterans ceremony today, he asks that you simply express your gratitude for those who defend our country.

The study for fiscal year 2020 says economic activity related to that spending has resulted in more than 77-thousand jobs, or about one out of every 26 jobs in the state, and nearly 350-million-dollars in state and local taxes.

Secretary Pierson says the study outlines the economic impact of the state’s various military-related operations including Fort Polk, Barksdale Air Force Base and the Belle Chasse Naval Air Station where thousands are employed at each.

East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Casey Hicks says the victim was walking in the Gardere area Sunday when Miller allegedly approached her said he was in law enforcement, flashed a badge, and began questioning her.

Hicks says they arrested Miller just days later due to good detective work. Having a description of the suspect’s vehicle and surveillance footage helped them find the plates on the car and thus his identity.

Barring any major developments, Mardi Gras 2022 is a go for next year in New Orleans as the pandemic appears to further wane. Arthur Hardy who publishes the annual guide to Mardi Gras says he expects strong efforts will be made to ensure that the major parades, such as Endymion, are allowed to use their traditional routes

Last year’s parades were canceled because of the raging pandemic.

 

Centenary College hasn’t played a football game since 1941, but today the Shreveport school announced plans to return to the gridiron and compete on the football field in 2024. Also, applications to join a conference will begin immediately. Centenary will celebrate its bicentennial in 2025 and Board of Trustees Chairman Archer Frierson says bringing back football will only enhance the higher education experience at Centenary…

Entergy Louisiana is looking to increase its green power-generating portfolio. Jonathan Bourg, director of resource planning for the utility, says Entergy will seek to purchase several hundred megawatts of solar power by around 2024. He says the four new solar facilities are important in Entergy’s efforts to provide clean energy.

The LSU men’s basketball team opened the season last night with a 62-point win over ULM as senior forward Darius Days scored 30 points and hit eight three-pointers.

Today the program announced it signed five-star forward Julian Phillips to a letter-of-intent. The six-foot-eight, 200-pounder from South Carolina is ranked as the 14th best player in the class of 2022.

Perfect Game has ranked baseball coach Jay Johnson’s first recruiting class at LSU as the best in the nation. The class features eleven Top 100 players.

Get ready for some big numbers. Insured losses from the 2020 hurricane season in Louisiana – the year we had Laura, then Delta, then Zeta – total about $10.6-billion. That’s what insurers have paid or have in reserve to pay for still-to-be-determined claims. State Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says over 300-thousand claims were filed, with about 1800 formal complaints against insurance companies to his department field…:
