Planned changes are underway to keep Louisiana State Police more aware of any possible danger a trooper may be in, as was the case for Master Trooper Adam Gaubert who was killed during a multi-parish shooting spree over the weekend.  Colonel Lamar Davis says the agency is working to implement a computer-aided dispatch system.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and this year women might notice when they have their annual screening they are asked when and which arm they received their COVID vaccine. Ochsner Health Radiologist Dr. Maverick LeBlanc says the reason being your lymph nodes could swell under your arm and impact your mammogram results.

It’s recommended that you wait four to six weeks after your last vaccine dose to have a mammogram.

Raising Canes is hoping to hire 10-thousand new workers in the next 50 days as corporate employees are working side by side with existing employees at their restaurants. Regional VP Matt Massey says it also shows workers the potential to be promoted to the corporate office one day.

The number of patients in the hospital as a result of COVID-19 continues to decline. The Louisiana Department of Health reports 525 COVID hospitalisations. 82-percent of them are unvaccinated. The state reported 31 more deaths yesterday increasing the death toll to 14,204.

Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne told the Baton Rouge Press Club that the state could soon sign a new lease agreement with the Saints that would keep them playing in the Superdome through possibly the year 2055. Dardenne says most all parties involved are on board with the deal, but a lot hinges on the state Bond Commission, who must approve financing of hundreds of millions in major renovations to the 50-year-old Superdome…:

As a search was on for a man wanted for shootings in multiple parishes on Saturday, it went unnoticed for 15 hours that State Trooper Adam Gaubert was dead in his patrol car in Ascension Parish. It’s believed 31-year-old Matthew Mire gunned down Gaubert during a shooting rampage. LSP Colonel Lamar Davis hopes new technology the agency is looking to implement can prevent a similar unfortunate situation in the future…

The leader of State Police, Colonel Lamar Davis, says it’s absolutely unacceptable it took 15 hours before they found Master Trooper Adam Gaubert dead in his patrol vehicle in Ascension Parish on Saturday during a multi-parish shooting rampage. Davis blames communication failures they are trying to address with new technology. He says they hope the new technology can also prevent the tragedy that occurred this past weekend…

Authorities have charged 31-year-old Matthew Mire with the murder of Gaubert. He’s also accused of killing one of his relatives and another man is in critical condition.

He was booked in a Baton Rouge jail yesterday and troopers say he was in handcuffs that belonged to Trooper Gaubert. Visitation for Gaubert will be Friday night in Baton Rouge and the funeral will take place at St. George Catholic Church.

Gas prices across Louisiana are up about seven cents a gallon compared to last week, and Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst with Gas Buddy, says the ballooning prices can be blamed on the upswing in oil prices.

The average price of regular has now climbed to about two-97 a gallon.

 

The widow of former Governor Edwin Edwards spoke publicly today about her decision to have his body exhumed and cremated last month. The Cajun Prince died on July 12th and was buried days later. Trina Edwards says she was not allowed to bury him at the original plot he purchased, and she was forced to make a quick decision about his burial and soon regretted it.

LeBlanc says swelling is a normal reaction after a vaccine and if you can it’s best to wait at least four to six weeks after your last vaccine dose to have your annual screening mammogram.

LeBlanc says the Society of Breast Imaging recommends women start getting annual mammograms at age 40. He says it’s important even if women are not experiencing any problems to still be screened annually so radiologists can compare previous mammograms.

The swelling of the lymph nodes under the arm not caused by a vaccine can be a symptom of a breast issue, therefore LeBlanc says that’s why women will be asked if they recently had a vaccine injection to rule out a possible problem.

After beating the Washington football team 33-22 yesterday , the Saints head into their bye week with a 3-and-2 record. Coach Sean Payton says they are heading in the right direction and the open week gives them a chance to recharge…

A 6-year-old Ascension Parish child is reported dead in a fire on a flatbed cargo trailer. Geismar Volunteer firemen says the boy and some friends were playing “fort” in and on the trailer when one of them began playing with a lighter; leading to the fire. Two other kids escaped unharmed.

A large of number of Louisianans are up-in-arms over large premium increases coming for their National Flood Insurance Program coverage; the so-called Risk Rating 2.0 Plan. For some living near water the hikes could be literally unaffordable. Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says the increases will damage the Louisiana economy, but MAY prompt private insurance carriers to compete with the FEMA-run NFIP. He says it cannot hurt to try shopping around for lower-cost flood coverage…:

State facilities are flying flags at half-staff in honor of State Police Master Trooper Adam Gaubert, who was shot and killed in Ascension Parish early Saturday morning. He says another trooper discovered Gaubert’s remains, after nearly 15 hours…:

Visitors to and residents of New Orleans, be wary of where you park your car. After a post-hurricane period of leniency on parking enforcement, city officials says they are now fully engaged in ticketing vehicles parked illegally, towing large numbers and even fitting some with the much-feared “boot”.

Following the arrest last week of a Covington High School student for attacking a teacher after an apparent Tik-Tok challenge gone wrong, police have announced the arrest of additional suspects. An 18-year-old and juvenile are now charged with Unlawful Posting of Criminal Activity for Notoriety and Publicity which is a misdemeanor.
