New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell is voicing opposition to a proposed constitutional amendment on the November ballot. Amendment One would create a single, centralized sales tax commission; replacing the multiple tax collection authorities in parts of the state. Her city is one of those places. Political analyst Jeremy Alford, with “LAPolitics.com”, says this is an un-ignorable political dispute…:

On November 13th, voters can choose “yes” or “no” on Amendment One, which would streamline sales tax collections down to one central state authority. Alford says Mayor Cantrell has had concerns about the Amendment; calling it a “political solution to a technical problem.” He says he thinks it goes deeper than that…:

There are not a lot of “heavy turnout” races or issues on the November ballot, except for in New Orleans where Cantrell is running for re-election and more. Alford says because of that, Cantrell’s voice could play a serious role in the amendment’s success or failure…:

Louisiana is observing National Teen Driver Safety Week this week as state police and others try to get the message through about the causes of crashes that left 95 teens dead last year in the state and more than 82-hundred others injured. Trooper Thomas Gossen.

Gossen says the “Sudden Impact” program, created over 20 years ago, has troopers teaming up with medical officials to help address the problem of teens being killed or injured in crashes.

Trooper Gossen says there is a small laundry list of driving mistakes that contribute to the teen crashes and the disturbing toll they’ve taken in Louisiana

LSU students marched Monday calling out administrators for not holding Chair of the Department of French Studies accountable for ignoring Title IX complaints. LSU Student and Outreach Chair for Feminist in Action Paola Colmenares says they are demanding the school hold rapists accountable….

Six plaintiffs have filed a lawsuit against the university claiming Chair Adelaide Russo allowed Edouard d’Espalungue d’Arros, a graduate student and employee to return to the department and repeat his predatory behavior despite awaiting trial in Rapides Parish for a 2018 rape arrest.

LSU Student Miranda Albarez says if the school had removed d’Espalungue d’Arros she might not have become a victim.

d’Espalungue d’Arros was indicted by a grand jury in Rapides Parish for a 2018 rape arrest and was allowed by a judge to return to France to visit family and has never returned to the country.

This is not the first protest over Title IX issues on campus, students camped outside of the LSU Football Operations Building last October when ignored sexual misconduct violations were exposed. Student and Secretary of Feminist in Action Kayla Meyers was there also.

Protestors are demanding transparency with the Title IX office and steps to end the rape culture on campus.

The head of the Student Government Association at Grambling State University is speaking out about the two on-campus deadly shootings, one on Wednesday, the other on Sunday. SGA President Cameron Jackson says the gun violence has already led to discussions with University President Rick Gallot and others about establishing possible checkpoints.

Jackson is confident that President Gallot will take steps to curb the gun violence from outsiders as happened during Homecoming Week at the university.

It’s the second shooting fatality in a matter of days on the campus, prompting a decision to cancel classes today and tomorrow and enforce a curfew. University President Rick Gallot says student safety is their priority.

A New Orleans city councilman with a history of drunk driving was arrested for the second time early Monday morning; again for DUI. Jared Brossett was arrested last year for drinking behind the wheel when he crashed his city-issued car into another vehicle. Details of this most-recent arrest have not been released.

Lafayette Police warn of a phone scam making the rounds. Callers will SAY they are with the local police or sheriff’s office; claiming to have a warrant for your arrest. But, they will take money to resolve the matter. The first red flag is them asking for money. The second is them asking for non-traceable forms of money, like store gift cards. Just hang up.

Police in Sulphur are investigating a crash that caused the death of a 7-year-old girl over the weekend. The accident happened on U.S. 90 on Saturday. Police say the child was not properly restrained in the back seat. Three others in the car were treated for minor injuries.

New Orleans Police are investigating a shooting this morning ON Interstate-10 near the Superdome that left two people – a man and a woman – seriously hurt. So far no motive, nor suspects in the crime.

It’s the second shooting fatality in a matter of days on the campus, prompting a decision to cancel classes today and tomorrow and enforce a curfew. University President Rick Gallot says student safety is their priority.

The two fatal shootings, Sunday and Wednesday fell during Homecoming week and both fatality victims were not students. State Police has issued an arrest warrant for 18-year-old Jatavious “Rabbit” Carroll of Delhi in connection with the Wednesday shooting and Trooper Michael Reichardt says they continue to investigate Sunday’s incident.

Homecoming events scheduled for Sunday were canceled along with classes today and Tuesday. Gallot says the school is offering counseling for students and faculty and like other communities, the GramFam is not immune to violence.

It’s been 14 years since Beauregard Parish had officers on horseback.

A Rapides Parish woman is sentenced to 50 years in prison for the November 2018 death of her invalid daughter, due to severe and intentional neglect. 50-year-old Karen Johnson Harrison pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter for the death 25-year-old Cyra Harrison, who had cerebral palsy. The judge in the case says, in this case, it will be a life sentence.

A New Orleans man faces criminal charges after video shot by a neighbor emerged showing the man tying up his dog, duct taping its muzzle and eyes, then tasing it several times. Karl Jackson was arrested and charged with animal cruelty.

Authorities say the deceased victims of two fatal shootings on the campus of Grambling University that occurred Sunday and Wednesday during Homecoming week were not students. Less than two years since winning a national championship, LSU and coach Ed Orgeron have agreed to part ways. Athletics Director Scott Woodward says the decision was made because of the team’s recent on-field performance…

The termination agreement calls for LSU to pay Orgeron his full buyout, which is nearly 17-million dollars. The LaRose native will also coach the team if they play in a bowl game and he’ll continue to keep recruiting high school prospects…

A day before LSU and Ed Orgeron announced their separation, the Tigers football team pulled off a spirited win over Florida. The defense forced four turnovers, which resulted in 21 points. Senior linebacker Damone Clark had a game-sealing I-N-T late in the fourth quarter. Clark says a player’s only meeting led by injured defensive end Andre Anthony put the team in the right mind frame…

Today LSU running back Ty Davis-Price was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week. He set a school record on Saturday by rushing for 285 yards in a single game.

ULM scored a huge upset as the Warhawks beat Liberty 31-28. Calum Sutherland kicked a career-long 53-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter. The first field goal by a ULM kicker that was 50-or-more yards since 2014.
