Speaker Pro Tem Tanner Magee says due to LSU’s lack of transparency over the alleged Title IX violations some lawmakers are considering only giving the school level funding.  Which could jeopardize construction of a new library and science building. Magee says ultimately, it’s the students who are punished and not those responsible.

Mandeville Republican Richard Nelson files legislation to allow a statewide vote on if marijuana should be decriminalized, regulated, and sold recreationally. Nelson says if the Legislature approves the ballot initiative and a majority of citizens vote in favor, marijuana would be decriminalized across the state.

The U-S Department of Education confirms the Office for Civil Rights is investigating LSU to determine whether they violated Title Nine requirements. The news comes as an LSU athletic department employee files a 50-million dollar lawsuit against LSU, claiming she was retaliated against after trying to stop cases of sexual harassment and assault while Les Miles was the football coach.

Mandeville Representative Richard Nelson has proposed legislation that would decriminalize marijuana possession and gives voters the opportunity to vote on whether marijuana can be grown and sold legally in their parish. Nelson says he’s asking the legislature to approve his bil in the legislative session that begins next week and the issue would then appear on the ballot in the fall of 2022…

A recent poll from LSU found 67-percent of Louisiana voters are in favor of legalizing cannabis.

There’s a push to create a passenger rail service between Baton Rouge and New Orleans and Baton Rouge Area Foundation V-P John Spain says the transportation project is included in President Biden’s infrastructure bill. He says the rail service would be handy for those who live outside of New Orleans, but want to fly out of Louis Armstrong Airport…

There’s an effort to allow voters to decide if recreational marijuana should be legalized and decriminalized in Louisiana.

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron will not attend a legislative hearing into the mishandling of sexual misconduct cases at the school and athletic program despite requests from an all-woman group of lawmakers. Instead, he has submitted a written letter with his response. LSU is now under a second federal investigation into Title Nine violations.

Baton Rouge Area Foundation VP John Spain says funding for a passenger rail line between baton rouge and new Orleans could arrive as early as winter if Congress passes the President’s infrastructure bill. Spain says travel from the Capital to the Cresent City would take about 45 minutes to an hour and they’d likely start with eight to ten round trips per day, and increase over the first few years.

National Weather Service Shreveport reports strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes are expected this afternoon and into the evening as a cold front moves into the region. The Cajuns eek out a 3-2 win over Nichols, notching all three of their runs in the first three innings. The Cajuns have now won six in a row and Lafayette sits atop the Sunbelt West at 5-1 and are 18-11 on the season as a whole.

The Pelicans fall to the Hawks 123-107 despite yet another huge game from Zion Williamson who scored 34 on 12 of 18 shooting. New Orleans was sunk largely on the back of an ice-cold night from Lonzo Ball who went 4 for 15 overall and 4 for 14 from three.

Two officers then pat down Moore and the other man, search the area for contraband, find none, and allow Moore and the other man to leave.

Audio from the body camera shows Moore telling an officer that he was scared and upset that a gun was pulled on him and he was searched while he wasn’t doing anything wrong. Paul confirmed the two did nothing wrong…

The incident took place on November 8th around 2 AM. Police say they were responding to noise complaints related to a roughly 200 person party that was happening on the top deck of a parking garage.

There’s audio of an officer explaining to Moore that hiding behind a vehicle looked suspicious and he feared for his life. Paul says the officers’ intent was not malicious, but both were given letters of reprimand.

State Republican Party membership saw an unusually large dip in the months following the January 6th US Capitol attack. Based on research by the LSU Manship School Statehouse Bureau 7,800 unregistered from the party, a party that has seen major growth over the last decade. LSU Political Science Professor Robert Hogan says while these voters might be frustrated, unregistering from a party doesn’t change much given Louisiana’s jungle primary system.

A teacher’s union is filing a lawsuit against the Caddo Parish school board claiming its attendance bonus for educators discriminates against teachers who took maternity leave, are disabled or elderly. Red River United Vice President Jordan Thomas says teachers have done everything that has been asked and announcing the bonus criteria now isn’t fair.

LSU’s associate athletic director of football recruiting, Sharon Lewis, tells USA Today she will file several lawsuits against the school, claiming she was mistreated for trying to stop sexual harassment. The Office for Civil Rights has opened an investigation to examine if LSU is in compliance with Title IX requirements. This is after extensive media coverage of the university. The U-S Department of Justice referred the allegations to the Office for Civil Rights to investigate. They will examine complaints from the 2018 – 2019 academic year to the present.

LSU’s associate athletic director of football recruiting, Sharon Lewis, tells USA Today she will file several lawsuits against the school, claiming she was mistreated for trying to stop sexual harassment. Tiger Rag Editor Ron Higgins says the allegations are explosive, including the details of an argument Lewis had with former football coach Les Miles.

Lewis says the argument was over Miles’s alleged desire to have blond women or light-skinned black women on the recruiting staff that he considered prettier.

The LSU Manship School Statehouse Bureau says 7,800 Louisiana voters have left the Republican Party since the January 6th attack on the US Capitol. LSU Political Science Professor Robert Hogan says this mirrors nationwide stats that roughly 100,000 Republicans have unregistered.

A teacher’s union files a lawsuit against the Caddo Parish school board claiming its attendance bonus for educators is discriminatory. Red River United Vice President Jordan Thomas says every teacher who worked this school year should be recognized and the system could have offered prorated bonuses based on attendance to do that.
