Just one day after Drew Brees announced his retirement, the Saints have signed quarterback Jameis Winston to a one-year deal worth $12 million. Winston will battle with Taysom Hill for the opportunity to replace Drew Brees as the team’s signal-caller.

Defensive end Trey Hendrickson had a breakout season with the Saints last season with 13.5 sacks and now he’s getting paid. Cincinnati has reportedly signed the 26-year-old to a four-year, 60-million dollar contract.

LSU kicks off Spring Football today and one position battle that fans will be keeping an eye on is the quarterback position.  Myles Brennan. Louisiana public schools will receive $2.6 billion from the latest COVID relief bill, in addition to the $1.4 billion they’ve already received in federal assistance dollars. State Education Superintendent Cade Brumley says part of the money will go towards helping schools pay for the COVID protocols.

Landry says many victims of human trafficking are afraid to tell authorities because they fear they’ll get arrested, and she says decriminalizing prostitution would also lead to safer sex practices among sex workers and their customers…

The state Department of Corrections has asked the Edwards administration for a 21-million dollar increase in state funding to help pay for a 10-percent increase in pay for entry-level correctional officers. D-O-C says they have over 400 unfilled guard positions, a vacancy rate of more than 36-percent. The budget will be considered in the upcoming regular session.

Visitation guidelines have been relaxed allowing for indoor visitation at nursing homes and adult residential care facilities. AARP Louisiana Associate Director of Advocacy Andrew Muhl says this is a big win for residents and their families, some of them have been suffering from the lack of personal contact….

Landry says when you remove the crime of prostitution it becomes much more obvious who is in the profession by choice versus against their will and if it is consensual between adults why is the government involved?

For many sex workers, Landry says it is a matter of economics and when people are hurting financially, they often make decisions that they wouldn’t otherwise. In Louisiana, white women make an average of 67-cents on the dollar compared to men and for Black women, it’s even less.

Giordano says they had to adhere to the state guidelines for festivals and fairs to open this spring. He says the fair will be different than in the past, with additional space for distancing, sanitizing stations, and face coverings will be required but can be removed in two designated areas of the grounds.

Saints Quarterback Drew Brees is retiring from the NFL and many are saying thank you for the 15 years he gave to New Orleans and the state of Louisiana. Governor John Bel Edwards released a video message and says he’s excited to see what Brees does next…

Since the state has moved to Phase Three, and New Orleans has also eased restrictions, more tourists are returning. But Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser the state is also competing against neighboring states that have eased restrictions even more and conventions remain on the fence about Louisiana.
