Most of Louisiana is under a tornado watch until early tonight as a result of a strong cold front that is moving through the state. There’s a line of storms moving through Ruston and Winnfield at this hour and radar shows a cluster of storms in southwest Louisiana.

Metairie-based MedPharmics is conducting clinical trials for the Moderna vaccine on children. Brooke Thorington has more.

A Gulf of Mexico oil lease sale scheduled for today was canceled weeks ago when President Biden issued a 60-day executive order that banned all new oil and gas leases on public waters. A 30-year old Church Point man is charged with negligent homicide after St. Landy Parish sheriff’s deputies say an infant drowned in his bathtub. Louisiana is taking part in clinical trials on children with the Moderna COVID vaccine. President of Metairie-based MedPharmics Dr. Robert Jeanfreau says the trial is broken into two groups and it’s the same vaccine adults receive, what they are testing is the most effective dose.

They are looking for participants age 12 and under and as young as six months.

Border crossings have hit a 20 year high as more immigrants are arriving at the southern border. President Joe Biden vowed to reverse many of the Trump Administration’s immigration policies and Republicans are pointing the finger at those policy changes including Senator Bill Cassidy.

The LSU Baseball team defeated Southeastern Louisiana last night by a score of 10-7.  The Tigers scored four runs in the first inning thanks to a three-run homerun by Hayden Travinski.  The Lions would cut it to a one-run game shortly after before LSU added more runs behind Cade Doughty’s three-run homer.  The Tigers will now focus their attention on Mississippi State as conference play begins this weekend.

Louisiana Tech’s baseball team dominated number-4 ranked Ole Miss last night in route to a lopsided 13-1 victory in Ruston.  Pitcher Cade Gibson was earned the win after going 7 and a third innings, giving up five hits, one walk, and earning five strikeouts.

The ULM Warhawks cruised past number-14 Oklahoma State on the diamond last night 13-6.  Danny DeSimone and Logan Wurm each drove in three runs and Nicholas Judice threw five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts.

Ragin Cajuns baseball snapped a four-game losing streak as they took down Nicholls 9-8.  The Cajuns jumped on the Colonels early but Nicholls fought back, scoring four runs in the bottom of the eight to make it a one-run game.

LSU wrapped up the first spring football practice.  The Tigers will look to bounce back after a disappointing 2020 season where they went 5-5.  Head Coach Ed Orgeron says he knows the fan base expects more.

ULM also began spring football practice and after going 0-10 last season, the Warhawks will try to rebuild the program behind a high-profile coaching staff.  Head Coach Terry Bowden says residents of Monroe are excited for the upcoming season.

Hail, strong winds, and tornadoes are possible as a strong cold front will sweep across the state today. A tornado watch is already up for northwest Louisiana until 1 pm and more watches and warnings are expected to be posted as the day goes along. State Climatologist Barry Keim says it’s just the beginning.

A bipartisan group is backing legislation that would greatly expand the drug court program using funds obtained from opioid settlements with drug companies. Landry says there are 75 drug court programs in Louisiana, but they are at risk because of a lack of funding. He says drug court programs reduce recidivism and with additional funding, there could be expanded drug testing of arrestees to identify potential addicts…

It was a big night of college baseball last night, 19th ranked LSU ended Southeastern Louisiana’s eight-game winning streak as the Tigers topped the Lions ten to seven. Cade Doughty stayed hot by hitting a three-run homer. Hayden Travinski also hit a three-run homer and drove in five runs.

After beating top-ranked Arkansas on Sunday, La Tech followed that up with a 13-1 win over fourth-ranked Ole Miss. Ruston native Cade Gibson made his first career start and allowed one earned run in 7.1 innings.

ULM upset 14th ranked Oklahoma State by defeating the Cowboys 13-6 in Arlington, Texas. Danny DeSimone hit his first home run and drove in three runs. The Cajuns snapped a four-game losing streak by beating Nicholls 9-8. Connor Kimple and Ben Fitzgerald homered for U-L Lafayette.

NBA, Portland rallied from 17 points down with six minutes left to beat the Pelicans 125-124 last night.

LSU Football Coach Ed Orgeron says Max Johnson got the first snaps as the Tigers kicked off spring practice yesterday…

Saints Coach Sean Payton says Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill will compete for the starting quarterback job. Payton made that statement on the Dan Patrick Show and said the two players understand there will be competition to replace Drew Brees.
