Firment says the problem is really prevalent once your claim moves from the local level up to corporate headquarters.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission says the state added 18,500 seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs from October to November as the unemployment rate dropped by one-point-one percent. But as of last month, the state still had 90-thousand fewer jobs as of November 2019.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees started off slow in his first game in a month as he failed to complete a pass in the first quarter and finished 15 of 34 for 234 yards and three touchdowns and one interception. New Orleans hosts Minnesota on Christmas Day.

For the first time in 44 years, there will not be an Independence Bowl. The annual bowl game played in Shreveport planned to have Army play a team from the PAC-12. But with several teams from the PAC-12 opting out of the bowl season, the I-Bowl could not find an opponent for the Black Knights.

The 19th ranked Cajuns will face U-T-S-A in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl on Saturday. Kick-off is at 2:30. It will be the first meeting between the two teams and the Cajuns are 5-and-2 in bowl games.

No bowl game for LSU and now the focus is 2021. Coach Ed Orgeron says he’ll work to convince players who are draft eligible to come back to LSU…

Yesterday, the state health department reported 37-hundred more coronavirus cases since Friday, 48 more deaths, bringing the death toll to 7,042. COVID patients in the hospital declined by 13 to 1,534.

Firment says there’s a concerted effort by insurers to cut costs by giving you less than you are owed. It starts by replacing traditional adjusters with technology.

Firment is a 20-year veteran insurance adjuster who is in his freshman year.

He says another technique he’s seeing insurance companies employ is to send customers lowball settlement offers and then make the appeals process a nightmare.

2020 was the most expensive year for Louisiana home insurers since 2005.

Firment says the problem is really prevalent once your claim moves from the local level up to corporate headquarters.

One example he noted was insurance companies only compensating contractors pre-hurricane prices on materials purchased post-storm. He says everyone in a hurricane zone knows prices shoot up after a hurricane strikes.

As for costs, Sullivan says it varies by program, the CARES funding acts as a performance-based reimbursement to community colleges and technical schools, so the courses are discounted for participants.

As for finding a job once you’ve been trained, Sullivan says that’s also part of the program.

Industries looking for workers where training is offered are health care, transportation and logistics, information technology, manufacturing and construction.

Governor John Bel Edwards begged business owners at a Resilient Louisiana Commission meeting to start taking the pandemic seriously again as cases surge statewide.  Edwards says the public’s response to this third wave of the virus will be judged by later generations.

The State is just shy of reaching 7,000 Covid-19 deaths.

Congressional negotiators will work over the weekend on a Covid-19 economic relief package that Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy has helped put together.  It could provide 200 billion dollars in aid for businesses.

There’s also discussion about a second 600-dollar stimulus check, but Cassidy says he has not been part of those talks.

The high school football semi-finals took place last night and in 5A Acadiana shut out Destrehan 23-0.

In 4A Carencro rolls over Neville 49-7 and Karr takes down Warren Easton 35-13.

For the 3A matchups, Union Parish squeaks out a victory over Lake Charles College Prep 43-42.

In 2A Many dominates General Trass 83-36.

Finally in 1A Oak Grove blows out Homer 59-12.

Drew Brees will start at quarterback on Sunday when the Saints take on Kansas City after sitting out the past four weeks on injured reserve.

The 10-3 Saints have the second seed in the NFC, just a tiebreaker behind Green Bay.  Saints Analyst Mike Detillier says Brees’ health is important.

Discounted car insurance rates are coming to an end for customers so that’s why you might be seeing higher premiums.  Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says it’s not necessarily an increase in rates, it’s the end of rebates 38 insurance companies gave to policyholders in the state due to reduced driving during the pandemic.
