Tropical Storm Beta has formed in the Gulf and Mexico and is forecast to become a minimal hurricane near the Texas coast early next week. A storm surge watch has been issued as far east as Cameron, Louisiana, and a Tropical Storm Watch as east as Morgan City. Beta is currently moving north at 8 mph but is expected to take a slow northwestward turn later today. National Weather Service Meteorologist Donald Jones  Cut 4 (11)“ …end up”  Governor John Bel Edwards releases a statement on the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Edwards says, “Justice Ginsburg was a trailblazing pioneer whose long and storied career in the law broke barriers and inspired many across the nation, men and women.” She was 87.

 

Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin warns under the election plan the state was ordered to adopt by a federal judge it is unlikely we will know the full results of the November 3rd election until the next day. The order calls for Louisiana to adopt the election plan used in the summer. Ardoin says that will likely mean a significant increase in absentee ballots.

Schefter reports Thomas felt fantastic at practice yesterday and the Saints are pleased and surprised by his progress. New Orleans is a 5.5 point favorite on Monday.

This same situation is playing out across multiple Presidential battleground states, and Ardoin explains why you likely won’t know who the next president is on November 3rd.

A Caddo Parish Grand Jury returns indictments against four Shreveport Police officers in connections with the April death of Tommie McGlothen, Jr. Treona McCarter, Brian Ross, D’Marea Johnson, and James LeClare are charged with negligent homicide malfeasance in the death of McGlothen. Substantial factors in 44-year-old McGlothen’s death included spent 48 minutes in the back of a police cruiser, largely unsupervised and without medical attention following an arrest involving excessive force, and excited delirium.

Former LSU Q-B Joe Burrow set a rookie record last night by completing 37 passes in a game, but his Bengals still lost to in-state rival Cleveland 35-30. Burrow was 37 of 61 for 317 yards and three touchdowns. But he also had a critical fumble that led to a Cleveland touchdown.

The high school football community is mourning the death of junior Remy Hidalgo. The Denham Springs linemen collapsed at practice on Tuesday and died this morning at a New Orleans hospital. In a Facebook post, Remy’s mother says this is not fair and she just wants her son back.
