Louisiana receives an additional $58 million in fishery disaster funding.  Congressman Garret Graves says the money will be used to offset the impacts of the 2019 Bonnet Carre Spillway opening on the seafood industry. Graves says of the three states receiving funding, Louisiana is receiving 2/3 of the allocated $88 million.

Louisiana receives an additional $58 million in fishery disaster funding.  Congressman Garret Graves says the money will be used to offset the impacts of the 2019 Bonnet Carre Spillway opening on the seafood industry.

Earlier this month, the state had received $14.7 million allocated to Louisiana fisheries to relieve the hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which Graves had called abysmal.

River Ridge Senator Kirk Talbot says his measure would result in more jury trials and other reforms that aim to limit damage claims against insurance companies and other businesses. Talbot says these reforms will lead to at least a 10-percent savings more motorists…

Mercedes-Benz also has a naming rights deal with the Atlanta Falcons new stadium and reportedly doesn’t need two stadiums in the NFC South named after the high-end automobile company.

The National Weather Service says it was an EF-3 tornado that touched down north of Church Point on Sunday night and reached peak wind speeds of 150 miles per hour and 100 yards wide. The twister traveled four miles and killed a 26-year-old woman. Nine others were injured. There’s a marginal risk for severe weather across central Louisiana and northwest Louisiana tonight.

The Bayou State has some of the highest auto insurance rates in the country and Senate Bill 418 makes significant changes to Lousiana’s legal system that would result in a decrease in lawsuits involving auto accidents. We continue to see signs that major professional sports are gearing up for a return. The governors in California, New York, and Texas all say they are ready for professional sporting contests without fans. Texas says they could hold games as early as May 31st.

The NBA has talked about resuming its season by holding games in Las Vegas and Orlando. But Pelicans executive vice president David Griffin says the league is not dismissing the possibility of playing games in teams’ home arenas…

The Pels practiced facility reopened yesterday. Griffin says seven players on the roster showed up in two different groups.

The NFL is reportedly looking at changes with its Rooney Rule in an effort to get more minorities in head coaching and coordinator positions. Sources say the proposed changes would require teams to interview at least two minority candidates outside of the organization for a head coaching job and one minority candidate must be interviewed for a coordinator’s spot.

LSU added its 11th commitment to the 2021 recruiting class today as four-star safety Khari Gee announced his verbal pledge to the Tigers. The Atlanta native chose LSU over Clemson. He’s rated as the ninth-best safety in the country.

LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri has told the Advocate that sophomore outfielder Drew Bianco has taken his name out of the NCAA transfer portal. But sophomore utility player C-J Willis is in the transfer portal.

College athletic departments are looking to make cuts and baseball is on the chopping block at a couple of places. Bowling Green is dropping its baseball program and Furman says it’s made the difficult decision to end its baseball program. The Paladins have been playing baseball since 1891.

The Pete Maravich Assembly Center at LSU has hosted a PPE production facility for about the last month and now the operation is wrapping up.  Director of Economic Development at LSU Greg Trahan says during that time, they made a big impact on the PPE needs of the state’s healthcare workers.

Over one million square feet of billboard vinyl was used to make gowns and roughly 100 employees assisted in the project.  Trahan says the project showcased LSU’s ability to bring together different departments to tackle a project and do so in a highly productive manner.

The project also produced over 2,000 gallons of hand sanitizer.  Trahan anticipates the project will have a long-lasting legacy at LSU.

Players can work out with one staff member, but not with the head coach or an assistant. And the staff member who is working with the player must wear gloves if that person is rebounding for the player.

Play was halted with 18 games left in the regular season and the Pels 3.5 games back of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Griffin says when the season resumes, the schedule will likely look different
