The final debate of the gubernatorial primary is in the books and the candidates spent the night at each other throats with Congressman Abraham seemingly the focus of attacks from the other two candidates.
Governor Edwards continued blasting Abraham for his record of missed votes in the House. He says Abraham missed crucial votes on items like a flood insurance renewal, and Homeland Security…

Abraham returned fire slamming the governor over what he called a slow, setback riddled 2015 August Flood recovery. Edwards disputed that accusation.

Eddie Rispone continued hammering his fellow Republican Abraham over a campaign pledge made in Abraham’s initial run for office that he would donate his Congressional salary to charity.

About 1500 immigrant detainees are being held in the Winn Correctional Center. It’s one of eight jails in the state to be housing immigrants. The facility is run by the Winn Parish Sheriff’s Department and Sheriff Cranford Jordan says work with ICE fills a gap created by criminal justice reform.

The detainees are all men, ages 18 plus, and are being kept separate from prisoners. Jordan says the facility results in $35-40 million being put into the local economy and with the ICE partnership, the 275 employees are seeing a pay bump.

Some immigration activists say that having the facility so far from other border operations makes it harder for immigrants to obtain immigration legal services. Jordan says they have eight courtrooms and attorneys are coming in from out of town to assist.

Louisiana has yet to get a firm grasp on normal fall temps this year. While a cold front is expected to impact the state starting tomorrow, National Weather Service Lake Charles Meteorologist Andrew Tingler says it will be hotter than average today.

Tingler says Friday morning’s low temps will be in the 70’s.
