Voters head to the booths Saturday for the primary and a NextStar TV poll has Governor Edwards receiving 43-percent of the vote, but ULM Political Science Professor Joshua Stockley says Edwards still has a chance to win it outright Saturday.

And Edwards was confronted with the Johnny Anderson sexual assault scandal with the first question of the final Gubernatorial primary debate last night. Anderson is the former Deputy Chief of Staff for Edwards who resigned after being accused of sexual harassment and assault by Edwards employee Juanita Washington. Washington says after being accused of harassment by six different women at his last job, Anderson should have never been hired, but Edwards says Anderson was vetted and cleared of wrongdoing.

An Associated Press story has brought to light that about 1500 immigrant detainees are held at the Winn Correctional Center in Winnfield. It’s one of eight jails in the state to house immigrants. The Winn Parish Sheriff’s Department runs the facility and Sheriff Cranford Jordan says they started detaining migrants in May and they have the room for them, because the state has fewer prisoners because of the criminal justice reform package approved in 2017…

Jordan says the contract with ICE has pumped an additional 35 to 40-million dollars into the local economy as the 275 employees at the prison have seen their hourly wage nearly double.

The Gators rushed for 215 yards against the Tigers last season in a 27-19 win in the Swamp, but Florida ranks near the bottom in rushing this season, averaging 140 yards a game.

Appalachian State shut down the Ragin Cajuns offense last night as the Mountaineers left Lafayette with a 17-7 win. UL-Lafayette Quarterback Levi Lews threw for just 131 yards. App State is now 5-0, while the Cajuns are 4-and-2.

The Saints continue to get ready for a Jaguars offense that features a couple of former LSU stars. Running back Leonard Fournette has rushed for over 100 yards in his last two games, while DJ Chark ranks fifth in the NFL in receiving yards with 465 yards and he’s averaging 18 yards a catch.

Jacksonville Owner Shad Khan is optimistic cornerback Jalen Ramsey will play this Sunday against the Saints. Ramsey has missed the last two games as the disgruntled super star has been seeking a trade.

Tonight’s NFL game tonight, is the Giants at the Patriots.

ULM faces Texas State in a Sun Belt match-up that can be seen on ESPN-U at 8:15. Both teams won their Sun Belt opener. The Warhawks have won 11 of the 15 meetings between the two teams.

President Donald Trump will be in Lake Charles tomorrow night to rally Louisiana voters to vote for one of the two main Republican candidates. ULM Political Science Professor Joshua Stockley says getting an endorsement from sitting President is huge, but this is different since Mr. Trump is not backing one particular candidate…

For the second consecutive year, Louisiana ranks number two in the nation for infrastructure investment, this according to Site Selection Magazine’s Global Groundwork Index.  Economic Development Secretary Don Pierson says the publication recognizes the state’s significant enhancements through recent initiatives.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested one of their own this morning when Deputy Chief Gregory Longino was pulled over driving 100 miles per hour on the Causeway Bridge. He was also arrested on suspicion of DUI. Longino, a 29 year old veteran with the department, was not on duty and in his personal vehicle. He was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail and is being held on a $2,500 bond.

There were sparks during the final televised gubernatorial primary debate as the candidates tried to make a statement before voters cast their ballot on Saturday. ULM Political Science Professor Joshua Stockley says nothing occurred that changes the dynamics of the race.

Congressman Abraham seemingly the focus of attacks from the other two candidates.  Eddie Rispone continued hammering his fellow Republican Abraham over a campaign pledge made in Abraham’s initial run for office that he would donate his Congressional salary to charity.

About 1500 immigrant detainees are being held in the Winn Correctional Center.  It’s one of eight jails in the state housing immigrants.  The facility is run by the Winn Parish Sheriff’s Department and Sheriff Cranford Jordan says the facility results in $35-40 million being put into the local economy and with the ICE partnership, the 275 employees see a pay bump.

The detainees are all men, ages 18 plus, and are kept separate from prisoners.

Louisiana has yet to get a firm grasp on normal fall temps this year. A cold front is expected to impact the state starting tomorrow, but today’s heat is still about 5-7 degrees above normal. National Weather Service Lake Charles Meteorologist Andrew Tingler says Friday morning’s low temps will be in the 70’s.

The Associated Press reports U-S Immigration and Customs Enforcement is housing eight-thousand migrants at eight Louisiana jails. 15-hundred detainees are at the Winn Correctional Center in Winnfield. Some immigration activists say having the facility so far from border operations makes it harder for the migrants to obtain immigration legal services. But Winn Sheriff Cranford Jordan says they have eight courtrooms and attorneys are available.

The final debate of the gubernatorial primary is in the books and the candidates spent the night going after each other with Congressman Abraham seemingly the focus of attacks from the other two candidates. Governor Edwards continued blasting Abraham for his record of missed votes in the House. He says Abraham missed crucial votes on items like a flood insurance renewal, and Homeland Security…

And Abraham went after Eddie Rispone claiming the Baton Rouge businessman has lied about his record. And Rispone asked Edwards why he voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016.

The election is Saturday and polls are open from 7 AM to 8 PM. A NextStar TV poll has Edwards receiving 43-percent of the vote, Rispone at 21-percent and Abraham at 20-percent, 12-percent are undecided.

State Police say they arrested a double homicide suspect out of Houston at a casino in Lake Charles. 46-year-old Reymundo Luis Valdez was taken into custody without incident.

L-S-P has arrested 50-year-old Jeffery Green of Baton Rouge on child exploitation charges. Authorities say Green tried to use a social media app to solicit a child for sexual purposes, but his conversation was with an undercover State Trooper posing as a kid.

The Ragin Cajuns four-game winning streak was snapped last night as Appalachian State beat U-L Lafayette again 17-7. That’s now seven straight losses for the Cajuns against Appalachian State as U-L Lafayette could not get its offense going last night as they had just 254 yards of offense.

Tonight ULM is at Texas State for an 8:15 kick-off on ESPN-U. Both teams are two and three on the season and the Bobcats are averaging just 20 points a game. But Warhawks Coach Matt Viator says Texas State feature some good skill position players…
